You can name yourself after a woman who has inspired you in your life, made a difference or a good impact. You can look at female celebrities who you adore. Maybe look through a book with names in them, like parents do for their children when they are choosing a name for them. Type in names for your ethnic background and see what is on the list.
You can also just browse through magazines, books, and the newspaper and see if anything calls to you. Plus, you can look at people in around and see what their names are; maybe it will be one you like.
Try not to over think it, just forget about it for awhile. It is like when you misplace your keys and frantically search for them to no avail. Yet, when you’re not looking frantically anymore is when you find them. Just relax, picture your feminine self, think about your like and dislikes, your style of dress and just see what name pops into your thoughts.

Another suggestion: Find a feminine variation of your name. My real name is John. So I picked out Johanna.

I agree with Debra. Don't force it. The right one will come to you, and you'll know it then.

Deb is right. You will just know.
Are there any names you just like, or think is "pretty?"
Funny thing is, I chose my name based on a piece of spammail I got once.

I agree with Debra, reflections-of, and Nicole – don’t force it, don’t over think it, you are under no deadlines to come up with a name. I think you’ll know when you find the right name – ooh I like the sound of that name and it fits me. As I suggested in replying to your introductory post, why don’t you ask your Wife for some input? Your Wife may have some ideas for the name of the girl within you.

Well my input is that I've used a name that was short for Evelyn, which is Eve, and that is close to my birth given name. Although pronounced differently. I've been called another name, and my spouse likes it better and that is Eva, but she has an Aunt with that name, so I have kinda' steered away from it. But like Deb said, when it comes to you, you will know. But you ask for some advice, and not trying to steer you toward anything, that is how I came up with my name. Now other than here, I've never been called it. I can't even get my wife to call me that when I'm all dolled up. Someday maybe. We'll see what happens.
Toodles,
Eve

There are all sorts of made up names these days. Made up names can be fun. I read about a girl who's mother was taking her daughter's school to task because the teachers were pronouncing her daughters name wrong. The girl's name was La-ah. The teachers were calling the girl Leigha or Laya. The mother went to the school and explained that her daughters name was "La dash a", 'cause the hyphen don't be silent".

Think about your hero or role-model.
I took my name from Marco Polo's who was my history hero in highschool times.
It could also be Elisa, my grandma role-model.

Try to pick names that match your initials. For example, if your male name was James Lawrence Smith then you could pick Jessica Lynn Smith. Then you could start going by your initials on your important papers and bank accounts. If your checkbook was printed J.L.Smith then you could use it enfem to go shopping. So, Jessica Lynn Smith would sign her checks J.L. Smith. Now go out and buy some dresses. Leanne

Leanne, that is exactly what did. Use my initials on my checks and use a fem name with the same initials - D E. the problem is the SO doesn't like the name I chose. So I am working on finding a new one that she agrees on that suits me.

I recently discovered something cool that might help you with this. Google search "most popular baby names of (whatever year)" and there's a website you'll find that lists the 100 most popular names of every year going back for a LONG time. In my case, it was 1964. The boy names are on the left, the girl names are on the right. My real name was the 66th most popular boy name in '64, so, flipside of that would've been "Valerie" as that was the 66th most popular girl name in 1964. If I hadn't already long set my girly name as Randi, I'd probably have done it this way as it just seems like a fun way to pick a name.
Good luck, and it's a fun website!

My name chose me. I did not choose it.
It’s the only part of my crossdressing that feels a bit creepy.
Like I was possessed or something.
I am scaring myself now so I will stop.

I am trying to remember the formula that porn stars used. It is something like using the name of your first female pet for the first name and the name of the street where you lived as a kid as the last name.
Mine would be Peppy Coburn.:D
I found one online that said to use the Name of your first pet and use your mother maiden name as your last name.
That would have made me Brandy Milledge
Catchy but I think I'll stick with what I got. :)

My name just came to me as soon as I realised I needed to give the woman in me a name. I'm sure the same will happen to you. But please don't be one of those girls who keeps changing her name.
Well, mine has something to do with my heritage, and the fact that it was somewhat androgynous. Your path will likely be different.

I was going to do that, but I decided that I really didn't like the name "Tippy".
Maria 60
10-19-2011, 07:45 PM
It's funny how i got Maria because i wasn't even trying to get a name. Every time i would be cloths shopping with my wife, she would pick up a skirt and ask me if i wanted it. So i told her i wasn't comfortable with her asking me like that. The next time we went out she picked up something and asked me if Maria would like this. At first i just looked at her and then i caught on. I don't know were she got Maria from, it would not have been my first pick, but because she choose it i kept it.
I "found" my name by trying to choose a name a) whose initials would match my male self, b) would feel age-appropriate, and c) contained many of the same sounds of my male name.
To help determine age-appropriateness, I used Wolfram-Alpha (http://www.wolframalpha.com/). You enter a name (only a first name), and most of the time, the search engine will give you some data about the name you entered, such as the years when that name was commonly used. As an example, I checked "Deb", and found that it was given to babies in the late 50's/early 60's ... and I was born in '61, so that works for me, as does "Debbie" which I also use on occasion.
I had previously used "Bethany" ... it was the name my wife and I had chosen, should we have a girl ... but it didn't really fit me, and the choice kinda bugged my wife.

You could try a feminized version of your male name, or if your male name can't be feminized try using the name of a female you have admired throughout your life

I used Gene Roddenberry's method for coming up with names for Star Trek characters, just random generations thinking about names. I have a whole list of names I originally came up with. I change them from time to time according to my personal development.:)

Another suggestion: Find a feminine variation of your name.
My male birth right is Stephen. My parents were hoping for a girl, Stephanie. It seemed natural to adopt the feminine version of Stephen.
If a cross dresser was really lucky, she'd have been named Terry.

Hi Wendy
Because Use-IDs have to be unique - "Wendy" is taken - you need to come up with something unique. Some members add a number like Wendy123, some add "CD" (WendyCD is also taken), some add a second name. You are from West Midlands so you could go with something like Wendy West (which is not taken). Once you have a unique rendition of Wendy - you can check out the Wendy's by clicking on Community at the top of the screen - and once you settle on your User-ID follow the directions listed HERE (http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/faq.php?s=&do=search&q=name+change&titleandtext=1&match=all).

I suppose you could post your pic on Utube and start a contest for the best name. The winner will get to fly you both first class to Bali for a three night stay at the luxurious Bali Bali Resort and Casino where you can dine from the menu of internationally renouned chef Che Balibaloo at the acclaimed 7 star restaurant, try your hand at the tables, or just relax at the spa. Take a adventure trip to the jungle or parasail over the warm blue ocean. Later that day, enjoy your time shopping 'til you drop on Bali Main, the meca of clothing designers boutique's worldwide. Finally, spend a quiet evening watching the sun set from your penthouse patio with an unlimited supply of fine, chilled to perfection and locally produced award winning wines, all at the winner's expense.
or
you could always just think about a nice name you think you would like. You can always change it if you decide it's not you. Prsonally, I like the first choice. Wished I had of thought of it at the time I chose my name, but come to think of it, the internet didn't exist at the time. Oh well.

Randi has a great idea, the baby names web site is a funs site, and lots of names to give you ideas, you can also see what people where naming there kids back when, so you wind up with a name that is age appropriate, since name styles do go in and out of fashion. I also based mine on my initials, that was the wifes idea, but I liked it, and it still took a couple of months that I tried out different names before I found mine.
