View Full Version : Crossdressing for spite at a job you hate.

I saw this today:

& it made me remember a job that I hated. I wish I had thought of CDing way back then (long before the current economic crisis). IIRC there was nothing in the dress code about it. If I could go back in time...Think Klinger from M*A*S*H :D

Doesn't she look Garand in that hat?
I'm not trying to make light of anyone who has or is suffering from work place discrimination. I'm just wondering what it would have been like to do that. Has anyone here done that at a job they hated as a protest or seen it done IRL? If so how did it go?

I actually thought about this once. We were pushed into getting uniforms for work and were told we could have anything out of the catalog we wanted. We have to pay the fee for the uniforms.
Anyway, I came so close to ordering one set of clothes for a woman. I have many times thought of pushing the dress code just to see what if anything they would do. The only problem is that I don't want them to know. Some things are best left in private.
I once wore a shirt that was designed for a man but had what is normally associated with women. I was actually told by one person not to were the shirt to work again. They thought nothing more of it (or said anything) because I am always joking around out work.

Did they have mini skirts for a uniform option:D Back then I was young & it was a job I didn't really care about. It was a dead end one, but kinda fun as I got to meet a bunch of different types people there. It was run like a prison & that would have been the perfect thing to do. They wouldn't have fired me, as I was one of the hardest & fastest working slaves there.
I do remember that it was a fad back then for girls to have big ripped holes in their jeans. A female work buddy dared me to go around with some big holes in my pants. I wore an old pair of tight skrink to fit Levis with the knees worn thin. She had fun ripping them up. I had to keep her from putting holes in the seat area:eek:. I wore them to work for a week or so. They were pissed, but couldn't do anything about it:devil:. I got tired of how they felt with the holes.

Nope, why would I do that if someone else can be a martyr? The only job that would probably work with is one wherein YOU are the boss or own your pwn company.:)

I'd need to find a job & those are hard to come by these days. I wonder if it would work to get excused from jury duty:daydreaming: That could get dicy though if the judge doesn't like your fashion sense. Can you get thrown in the klink for contempt of court by not having your shoes & purse match while CDing?

I am working for the police forces and ordered ladies blouses and shoes. They refused to send the blouses but still sent me the ladies shoes. At least one little success.

That sounds like a really fun idea.
But there're some things in life that are really fun to talk about as long as you never do them.
This is one of them.

Seems a little reckless to antagonize your co-workers especially in an occupation such as police officer. Don't forget that you may need them to have your back should a situation arise. Just saying........

Maybe you could order some bullet (proof) bras from the 1950's! :) Kidding.
Sometimes the need to make a fashion statement takes a backseat to earning a living. In my municipality, cross dressers have many legal rights, including the right to be en femme. However, an employer retains the right to have a dress code applicable to cross dressers. And cross dressers are treated differently than men undergoing transitioning to female.

On my former job the dress code was jeans, work shirt, safety boots and hardhat. I don't think a dress would have been appropriate for the building trades. But I saw that Dilbert comic strip and my first thought was Dilbert broke the ice and perhaps the society page will be next, and finally guys in dresses will be common in the workplace.

You never know what might happen, last year I showed up at the Employee of the year cerimony wearing a Mens white dress shirt, black tie, pencil skirt, argyle tights and 5 inch dorsey pumps... and I still have a job...

In this terrible economy (and it isn't likely to get any better soon, if ever) I wouldn't risk a job. Especially if you are in an "at will" state, they can fire you for dressing (or for anything else they don't like) indirectly by just making something up.

I agree that in an economy like we have in NY, you're lucky to have a job. Doing anything to jepordize that is unwise. On the other hand, if girls and women can show up to work dressed in men's clothes, why can't the opposite apply? It goes against what society thinks we should look like, but so what. As long as you're not wearing inappropriate clothing for the job, who cares?

My employer has a catalog of clothes that have the company logo on the them. It's not a required uniform or anything just a bunch of shirts, tops, tees, and hoodies that all have the company logo on them. I saw a really nice women's pale blue vee necked t-shirt and a pink button up blouse/shirt that I was seriously thinking of buying. All the guys stuff was boring and bland. I chickened out as (of course) everyone would have known I was wearing the women's options and I didn't want to deal with the flack and/or ridicule from co-workers

Every now and then I get really fed up and think about saying to heck with it, and going in to work fully dressed femme or just somewhat gender-bent, to go out in a blaze of glory. Not really serious of course, about either getting fired or doing it that way, but it's a nice day dream that takes the stress off. Where I work there is a policy that protects gender-expression, but I don't think I want to test it, and it would create a lot of other problems as well. I do wear long hair tied back neatly and small ear studs in pierced ears, no issues. A few times I've worn, just to amuse myself, more or less all women's clothes, but they were very "unisex" trousers and shirt (plus underdressing) and flat boots, so there was nothing very obvious, nothing that could possibly get me fired. Talking with a friend to whom I was fully out about dressing at work he said "they won't fire you for that. They'll find another reason."

I didn't hate my job so much (I had AWESOME co-workers who were pretty open-minded, mgmt wasn't so keen on it though) I Dressed for halloween (twice, once as a hippie girl and the other in a long blue chinese dress w/ heels, got a bunch of compliments on that one :D)
the last time was a couple days before they closed (permanently) I wore a white blouse and a shorter (not too short :o) black skirt, coworker (and most of the customers) thought it was funny, one actually complimented me on the skirt (said she had one just like it and weren't they soooo comfortable) *one* customer (amazingly enough from the neighboring hairstylist) complained and the boss flipped out... heh. Fortunately it didn't affect my unemployment... and i had 2nd job that would start up in a month or so anyway :)

I had a friend at work who showed up for jury duty in his work clothes. The judge told him he had to wear a coat and tie so he went out and bought a suit (he didn't own a suit that fit him).
The (government) job paid your normal salary minus and compensation from the court so when it came time to be paid, he claimed the cost of the suit.

There's an old saying , something like "you don't poop where you eat." That seems to apply here. You don't want to mess up your job by fooling around there. If you hate your job, the best thing to do is do the best job you can at it while looking for a job you will like.
