View Full Version : A question of rank among Veteran Dressers?

:usa:There are many veteran CD/TG/TSs here. Some r still serving. Thank you ALL!:usa:
Not all r from the USA, I realize! :ukflag::france:canada::aus:
But, all our allies, also!

With respect and remembrance of those service men and women who had their lives cut short and those who were injured in defense of our freedoms on Veteran's Day, I wondered;

If there were any high ranking service persons here!?

I know we have sargents, captains, and lower ranking personel. I made corporal in my 2 years in.

What rank did u achieve? Were any of u, or do know of any TGs, that made major, colonel, or general?

Well, I worked for a living, so I was enlisted. Somehow (with my attitude) I achieved a rank of E-5 (SP5) and I was always put in charge of my section and given hard stripes but hardly, if ever, did I wear my rank pins (especially after the time I threw them at my NCOIC). I signed up for 4 years but got out 6 months early due to the troops leaving Nam. All in all a good experience in spite of myself RS.;):)

E-5, second class engineman, USN, got out 3 mos early on a 4 year enlistment as the Viet Nam war was winding down. Wasn't always fun, but looking back, a good for me experience, and I was able to save some money for a start in life. Sherrii

I've seen through the posts words like "lowly" or "embarassed". Folks, sorry to say but these words don't fit here. No matter how you served, but the fact that you did, makes all the difference in the world. It is thanks to your service, big or small, that the rest of us can sleep at night and not worry. I think the word of order is more like PRIDE, as I certainly am proud of you all. A big thank you!

As to being "embarassed"- that may not have been the right word. I am proud of my service. I just wish I could have done more when I was in. I was shy about not getting more promotions in the time I was in. I do hold a grudge with Shinsecki ,the mastermind behind the berets for everyone in the Army, when he was my Squardron (Bn) CDR. Due to a time lapse of receiving my test MOS annual results back in a timely manor he kept me off the promo list an extra 90 days and that delayed my promotion to SSG for over 3 yrs more. Almost got kicked out when they were reviewing E5's with over 13 years svc for dismissal. Okay I am done venting. I got that off my chest.

Oh, Gabi - my tongue is, as always, firmly lodged in my cheek. I'm not embarrassed about being enlisted, nor do I really think it was 'lowly.' I chose to remain enlisted even after my degrees. As I put it to my commander when he wanted to put me in for OCS, "Sir, please don't. I feel that I can still supervise and serve just fine as enlisted."

I made it to SP4 promotable to E-5 in three years. Right after I took the E-5 exam, they raised the points on me so I didn't get SGT. I ended my elistment after the mandatory three and went back to school with some cash and a much better attitude than when I had dropped out. Besides I was in a dead end mos that basically had a one mission life span if the baloon had ever gone up during the cold war. MSD on the weapon was 3 miles and the team had to guard the weapon until it went off so it wouldn't fall into enemy hands. Thank god they disbanded the entire MOS and company before the gulf wars started....

Hmm, of the people responding I counted the following from those identifying their services:

22 USN
17 USA

Now, considering that the Navy and Air Force are roughly the same size and the Army is about half again as big we seem to have a small overrepresentation of Navy folks in this straw poll!

I served in the USAF for three years four months and nine days and was honorably discharged with the rank of Airmen First Class (A1C). I would have been a career Airmen but I got caught up in one of the RIF's (Reduction in Force) that took place back in the early 1990's. Of course, my being caught up in that RIF was most likely due to the fact that they were unable to find anything during the USAFOSI (United States Air Force Office of Special Investigations) investigation, which was instigated by my first wife calling my first sergeant and telling him some lies. She told him of my crossdressing (truth), she told him I and my second wife were making pornographic movies (lie), she told him I was dealing drugs (lie). They sent me to the psychiatrists who could not find any issues with my brain, in fact the only thing they found out was that I am a crossdresser, which they really couldn't use as a discharge reason since they now knew about it and therefore I was not a security risk. So, they just added me into the RIF group and I got my honorable discharge.

I always enjoy these threads so much. It is so nice to see how many of our fellow Veterans are also among the TG ranks. It makes me take a second glance when I am out with the Legion Riders or walk into a VFW hall. I am proud to serve along side or in the wake of each and everyone of you regardless of rank, because lets face it, rank really doesn't matter when we are riding to the sound of the guns. The past 27 years proved to me that I do not care if the person next to me in battle was a Private or General; if that person was Army, Airforce, Marines or Navy; or even if that person was straight, gay or transgender. I just cared that he or she could get the job done. Thanks to each and everyone of you for stepping up and getting it done.

On any given day there are somewhere beyond 25000 people working in the Pentagon. Given the likelihood that we TG are well represented in the military, I often wondered how large a gathering we could muster right in the center courtyard! It could be the largest gathering of TG people anywhere, rivaling the Southern Comfort conference. Of course you may need a security clearance to attend!

Spot on, Gabi!!! And I second that emotion!!

E-4 US Army, Served for 2 years, 11 months, 22 days, 13 hours and 27 minutes. Except for basic and advanced training I spent all my time in Stuttgart Germany and had a blast. Told the career conselor that I would re-enlist for 6 if the army would put it in writing that the last 3 years of the six, I would be stationed in Bergesgarten, Germany. The army said no way so I said Good Bye.

I ain't even in yet! But considering I'm in the Navy for 6 years as a nuke, I should get pretty high up there. I'm automatically E-3 and guaranteed another promotion after graduating nuke school.

Spent two years with a 26 day drop at the end of the tour. I made E-4. I had orders to make E-5 which were effective eight days after my 26 day drop. I felt I did not need to stay around just to make E-5 soft stripe. Infantry in Nam with Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster.

That's fine by me, SusanM! I wanted this thread NOT to be a shout out about the services, but to be all about the WONDERFUL men and "women" that have and are serving! That it is still running brings a tear my eye! Because SO MANY of u have checked in. Yet, I KNOW there r many more who r not able to!

Sorry I missed this earlier. I hope I'm not too late. I retired as Lt. Col (O-5) from the USAF. I am always pleased to see so many other veterans on the forum. It doesn't matter what your rank/rate was, what mattered was that you were there.

Captain USAF, plot two trips to Vietnam, 13 trips over Cuba 1962

RF101C pilot?

I left the Air Force after one hitch as an A1C (E4) in 1966, about as high as you could rise in the Air Force as an enlisted man in 4 years until Vietnam. My job was working on aircraft comm/nav gear for our Century Series fighters in Germany and France. A great experience that made a lot that followed in my life possible.

After reading through this thread and one last year I've been going through my cruise books with a magnifying glass!

I was cruising through the Karen Serenety website and came across a shipmate from Ranger (CV-61) who has now fully transitioned. I checked my cruisebook and she was on the Airwing Staff. Makes me wonder how many people I have known but never realized were sisters.

Me too! From a purely statistical view, there was probably at least one other sister per squadron. As crazy as some of the people I served with were, including some certifiably insane commanding officers, I'm looking at some of the more "normal" shipmates for possible sisters!

O-4 Major. I was enlisted for four years during college then an officer for 16. I've always dressed in secret. I stood in front of many a formation with panties, stockings w/garters under my BDU's and often went to PT with tights under my sweats. No one was ever the wiser but I sure new it.

As a US Army field artillery officer, I spent many a night in a CP with something frilly on and the door LOCKED.
