I am going to be traveling to NOLA in a couple of months .. Could someone please point me in the direction of someone who does makeovers .. I can't do my own makeup to save my life ... Boston , Portland , Los Angeles , San Fran , Houston all have good to great places to get Transformed .. What about NOLA

Hi KellyTea59: Native NOLA girl here. Unfortunately I do not know of any makeover services in NOLA. I haven't lived there for a few years so I am not up on the latest but to my knowledge I don't believe that there are even any stand alone MAC or Sephora stores.
You could try looking on Google or Cragislist for a private cosmetologist. Also check to see if there might be at least a MAC counter or Spehora counter in a large department store.
One bit of good new for you: NOLA as a whole is a fairly friendly and accepting place for the LBGT community. If you do get your makeup done and get dressed up it is a good place to go out en femme.
Best of luck to you and have a great trip. NOLA is a great place to visit whether en femme or in drab.

Hi Kelly -- first of all, please know that NOLA is the greatest place in the country, period, and is the very best of all places for us CDs! You can get a wonderful makeover at the MAC counter in the urban shopping mall at the river end of Canal Street, just opposite Harrah's Casino (I'm spacing out the name of the mall, but the MAC shop is just inside the doors off Canal, on the right). There's a wonderful beautician there named Mitch, who is entirely supportive of us and is great at handling the special shaping and contouring needs we have. You could also try a great shop on Royal Street, about the 900 block, the name is something close to Fifi Maloney's -- they have a wonderful wig selection, they do makeovers, and they love and accept CDs. I bought my very first wig there, many years ago; I sat in one of the chairs, the SA was totally cool with it (I was otherwise entirely in drab) and the female customers got into the act, offering suggestions on what colors would be most flatterin and what styles would frame my face best. Have a great time and let us hear of your adventures!
Hugs -- Diane

It really all depends what you want to do.

If you are looking for a transformation studio like a one-stop shop, that does not exist here. Sure there are places specializing in costumes and theatre make up but that is not the same. We are a much smaller city than any of those you mentioned. I do not think anyone could ever make any money here doing that. There is not a large tg population here.

If you are looking for someone to make you up, there are quite a few places. The problem is none of them are equipped to really deal with your beard shadow if you have one. Even the MAC store, which I agree with Diane...they are good - does not carry their thick foundation found only in Pro stores. If you do not have a beard shadow to worry about or if you have your own make up, then there are many small cosmetic shops that will take care of you. If you are interested I can give you the name of my favorite one.

Whenever I get the urge to get made up by someone else (not often) I have usually gone to an ULTA somewhere. Most of the time they have someone that will do a good job and give you good ideas. They also have the make up you need. There is no ULTA yet in New Orleans as far as I now.
