Those of you who follow my blog already know that I've been coming out at work but today I made it official.

This morning I met with HR and told him everything, and then I just came back from lunch with the Pres/CEO where I told him that I was transitioning and 2012 is gonna be a big year.

So now I'm totally out as a tranny and the whole company will have a front row seat to my very public transition next year.

...to be continued

Way to go and a big congratulations to you. How has the company reacted so far? I think it is always a major milestone, not just for the person involved, but also for the company and all the rest of us when someone can openly transition at work, keeping gainful employment and just being there as oneself. I am anxiously awaiting the next installment of "to be continued ...".

Congratulations! You certainly picked the right geographic location to do it, the Bay Area tends to be very accepting. I think my first public outing is going to be in San Francisco and San Jose early next year.

I'm excited to hear the news Misty. It may seem like one more tiny step, but it's still a big deal and I am happy for you.

I had my first appt. today with a transgender therapy specialist at Kaiser. As with all things Kaiser, it's a mixed bag, but it's another step for me too.

We need to get together again soon and chit chat.

Congratulations on telling them - now the big work begins to plan around your transition. Hopefully they will appoint someone to liaise with you about questions like how do they handle questions from other employees or from customers if that is a possibility, which restrooms you will be using, what other support they can offer / you will need.

Awwwwwww thanks so much for the support ladies.

It's funny because I've been pretty much telling everybody for the last few weeks and the CEO already knew. I figured he'd heard something already but I really wanted to tell him in person and let him know that I've been working on this for awhile and I promised it wouldn't be a burden on the company. He did wonder about bathrooms and stuff but I told him it wouldn't be an issue for awhile yet, and when it is it'll be a natural transition for everyone. My goal is to make it easy and comfortable for everyone else, cuz I'm already good with it. ;-)

I never planned to actually transition here, because mainly I didn't have the guts, but you know what? I grew a pair! I don't know what I was so scared of. Everyone has been really cool and accepting. The macho ones are already giving me nicknames and I love it. It just proves that everything is gonna be okay.

Congratulations Melissa and it is not a tiny step by any means.

And I bet it is a huge weight off your shoulders, so I hope to catch up with
you again soon on Facebook so you can tell me more about your experiences.

Be free - overcome your fear!

Congrats and good luck! I'm hoping that you will be pleasantly surprised with your outcomes at work. I have several friends who have transitioned at work in the last year and everyone just gathered around them like family! One is a high school teacher, of shop class no less! Everyone has been so helpful for her and she just smiles all the time now.

Don't be surprised of the alpha males become very protective of you - it happened to my best
trans friend here in Cairns who is a motorcycle mechanic and one of the best custom bike builders
in the region who works on Harley Davidsons. All the bikers here are now very protective of her ;)

Very cool news. Things such as this are so uplifting for all of us.

Kind of a neat irony, huh? Shows there is hope for the human race after all.

True Sara, but I think what this really shows that if you are good at your job and also a good person then everything
should go well for you in transitioning on the job. It is a real pity that one closeted bisexual homo/transphobe I knew
who always said that I was "a really good bloke", then turned against me as soon as I told him I was transitioning from
male to female. So did I really change that much for the worst that I should become so hated? I can't work out his logic.

It's interesting that's for sure. These macho types are the ones that give us a hard time, and call us names, and maybe even threaten us, ...until they KNOW one of us.

This transition has been, and continues to be absolutely fascinating.

It is so funny you say that Melissa, my landlord has known me for about 8 years and I have also played in his band,
he is your typical macho alpha male and a damn sexy one at that ;) Anyway he gave a very fair warning to a former
male house-mate who was sexually harassing me, he told the guy "Don't f*ck with Melody just because she's a woman,
and never forget that she use to be a male who has been in the army, learned martial arts and knows how to fight".

Well anyway, this idiot didn't listen and he had another go at harassing me and I told him to "F*ck off". Well he didn't
handle the rejection very well and tried to attack me. Needless to say he found himself neatly locked up in a sleeper
hold within seconds. My landlord came running in to see this and burst out laughing. Ever since then it has been one
of the most talked about stories by my landlord and him and his friends really get a good laugh out if it still to this day.

Every single guy I have ever met through my landlord ever since then has always shown me the greatest respect. ;)

Okay so my company has two more Divisions. One in Bakersfield and one in Fresno. Today I'm in Bako to tell the division manager who I used to work for and is a friend of mine that I'm a tranny as well as the tech manager who works for my Division, and the Bako Senior PM.

I just got back to the hotel and everyone is totally supportive.

I thought for sure I would get some static from a redneck town like this but apparently I work for an incredible company and they all love trannies. Tomorrow I head back to my beloved Bay with a quick stop in Fresno to spread the news.

Did I mention that I was O.U.T.!
