Depending on the shoe u could get away w/ a 10.5 but 11 would be a safe bet.

I wear a 9 1/2 mens and most of the time a womens 10 1/2 W fits just right. However shoe manufactures vary and at times I have to go with an 11.

You can't really go with the "2 sizes bigger" rule all the time. There are a lot of variables in shoes. ;)

The rule of thumb is that you have to add 2 sizes to your mens' shoe size to find out what size in womens' you would wear. I found out that I don't follow this. I wear a size 12W in mens and a size 12 or 12W in womens. The best way to find out it to try on shoes at the store. Payless has a wonderful selection of shoes in larger sizes and the staff is incredible and don't mind me trying on shoes before I buy. Good luck in your endeavors.

Love,

Jessica

I am not sure I agree with the 2 sizes larger.....but then again, differences in sizes between manufacturers on both sides (men's and women's) can play havoc with trying to figure it out. I wear between a size 8.5 to 9.5 mens and wear between 8.5 to 9.5 women's. I think a lot has to do with the difference between how a man's shoe and a woman's shoe fits. In a man's shoe, I personally like a good bit of "toe wiggle" room but in women's shoes, I tend to like them somewhat tighter. These have only been my observations about myself and might not apply to the masses.

I have found that I wear the same size in both men's and women's shoes. I think the biggest problem I have found is that there are large differences in the fit based on the style and the manufacturer. My male size is 11.5.

I have a pair of 11.5 wides with a 3 inch heel that are delightful to wear and just got another brand and style in the same size and they are so tight that I will have to return them.

I also have found that if I try to compensate for a tight fit by getting a longer shoe, I end up with no arch support and they are painful to wear even though they feel ok before walking on them.

I wear an 8.5 mens shoe, and I have wide feet. For the most part, a womens 10 works best for me.

I've discovered the rule of thumb isnt' always reliable. With open-toe shoes you generally don't need to go up as much in size as with closed-toe shoes. Likewise, if you can get a wider size, you may not need to increase the length as much. If you shop at Zappos, the customer reviews are quite useful in getting a sense for how well a particular shoe runs to size.

I'm a 9.5M in a men's shoe and find that a woman's 10 fits me quite nicely. Fit is especially important in buying heels. A good fit is necessary for walking and comfort. It is always best to try them on before buying. Also trying them on with nylons. A lot of stores supply some sort of foot cover but they are minimal and I would suggest that you wear at least knee highs for trying on shoes. That way you know that you will get a good fit and nylons of some type certainly make them easier to slip on too.

The conventional guidance is to add 2 but since I'm wearing a thinner sock enfemme (aka nylons), I've found that adding 1.5 works well.

The old line that "it depends on the shoe" is true but we don't all have the ability to shop in person to try them on first.

I wear a men's 11M, and most of my femme shoes are 12's, which fit all right because my feet are not especially wide. I also have some 13's. And I can get away with a women's 11 or 11W, depending on the shoe.

If you're wearing sandals, one size larger than your men's size usually works, especially if the women's shoe is a width wider than your men's size. For closed-toe and/or closed-back shoes, it's probably best to go two sizes larger than your men's size. If the women's size is the same as your male size, that's a hit-or-miss proposition, but it's not a fait-accompli that you're not going to be able to fit in it. Like I said, it just depends on the shoes and the width of your feet.

This is based on my experiences, of course. Your results may vary. :)

I have found that shoe size sets not definative pattern for converting to ladies shoes from mans.

The big item of concern is the last of the shoe and width.
I take a 9 1/2 B, which is very narrow for a man.
In payless, i can wear a size 10. If I go to Naturalizer which is a very high quality ladies shoe in Canada, with sling backs and open toe, i can often wear a 10, however in a pump i wear a 11 medium or double A depending on how they are marked.

I wear an 8.5-9 in men's size. I can comfortably wear a 10 in a closed toe shoe. For sandals or open toe, I can easily wear a 9.5 or even a 9.

Personally i wear between a size 10 to 12 in mens shoes, and curiously enough, i also can wear a size 10 to 10.5 in womens shoes. The best way is to simply try the shoes on. My experience with shoe sale girls were incredibly positive. We spent a few minutes over the cash register discussing how awesome a pair of brown Airwalks look. And in drab.
