So today I was calling around for some pancetta at various local grocery chains (which none seem to have) and of the 5 stores I called, 3 people called me ma'am. Now I have practiced my fem voice when I work from home but I wasn't particularly trying to speak with it either. I am guessing the practice has worked (I have never had a deep male voice to begin with, but I also do not sound very feminine when talking normally as well) I was both thrilled and surprised that 3 people called me ma'am on the phone. I am a part timer CDer and am happy being a genetic male but when I do go en femme I try and be as female as possible, voice included.

Have any of you gals had that happen you and how did you react?

Happens to me all the time. Everyone always thinks I'm a woman, even when I'm not trying. Guess I'm just lucky, that way. My girlfriend sometimes asks me to talk to people that she doesn't want to talk to. I can easily masquerade as her, over the phone.

This has happened to me a few times over the years, and this was back before I actually started to CD. I remember back then it used to bug me when someone said ma'am. Now if someone called me ma'am I doubt I would bat an eye at it, might even look at it as a compliment.

That is guaranteed to never happen to me unless I make a deliberate effort to sound like a woman since I sound something like Joe Friday of Dragnet when I talk. Everybody's different.

I have had it done a couple of times, i just so on talking until and correct it, and i tell them no big deal. I have a daughter that sometimes comes home and call me mom and i am not dressed that way, she speaks before she thinks.

Since becoming a member of this forum and learning from the other members here, I decided to practice with my female voice. Someone once educated me to the fact that the voice is a instrument and in order to play it well you must practice. I have practiced for approximately seven months now and have found a comfortable pitch on the scale at SO. I have also recently started speaking to certain stores I call in that pitch and was surprised when the person I was speaking to called me Maam. When I hang up from the conversation I smile and say way to go girl you can do it. It is alot of fun and another feather in my headdress to improve my presentation.
