While waiting for the bus home from work today, I was making the usual small talk with those waiting with me. I was in fully guy mode, granted, longish, curling hair. One of the ladies looked over, and asked.."Why do you have earrings in both ears?" I smiled, looked over and in my best girl voice said.."Balance."

I use to tell people the same thing ..."Becuse wearing one earring do kinda make ya head look lop-sided"... But explaining why they were 4 inch hoops was a bit more difficult..

I love that answer !Nothing worse then having your head laying on one shoulder all the time! People may think you're weird! Hugs!

I have been asked the same question and replied, "I didn't want to discriminate." I thought it was a lame excuse but it satisfied those who asked. As In have become older and bolder if asked again I might tell them the truth, "Because I'm a crossdresser." That should shut them up.

When my daughter asked that same question when I surprised her with my new pierced ears, I responded that I forgot which side was the gay side, so I just got them both pierced to avoid any confusion! It worked for me, but almost 3 years later, she still doesn't like them, even though her friends do. Kinda like one of those "Not In My Backyard" approaches.

I've always given the same answer "why not!" That usually stops further comment.
never had anyone ask me such a question, but if asked..i would just say they look good don't they.

Wonderful comeback...I have to remember that one.
My favorite would be, "They're like breasts, they usually come in pairs".

Sometimes . . . the simplest answer is the best :) Love it!

I have one right here on the train.Chic to NY
A lady with a husky voice was complaining..No! bitching loudly about her problems.
It was getting on everyones nerves.
The clincher was.
"I am transgendered and have psychological problems."
In my pink polo shirt and blouse, male mode..
I could not help saying.
"Don't worry dear we all have our problems."
SILENCE......

Great answer. Simple and yet profound with the girl voice giving a nice little pin prick to an insult posing as a question.
I hate cowardly attacks where people pretend innocence but you know their passing judgement on you by their questions.
I need to learn "balance" because I go stone cold quiet and my eyes bore into them leaving very little room to navigate, than I feel guilty afterwards because I question my perception of the situation and wonder if I'm being overly sensitive as usual and their comments were harmless and possibly even friendly. Oh to be a mind reader, life would be so much simpler, terrifying but simpler.
