I know that I can not wear my breast forms on the job I have (they would be destroyed).
The sticker is that I am not out at work (YET), but I want to be. I have talked to my co-workers and have become friendly with all of them, but I have not talk about any GLBT issues.
One (straight) man told me that he has worked with a few gays, lesbians and a tranvestits, but that he had only had trouble with only one.
Once he called me Sir and I told him "that title just don't fit me." He ash if I would rathey that he call me Mam and I could have said yes, but I did not know him at that time seeing as he had just started working there.
I started to tell him then that he could add transexual to his list.
Their is one openly gay man on one of the other 4 shifts, so I know the company in not bias toward gays.
I have not been completely hiding, work for the last 3 months, I wear 1 ear-ring (right ear), neutral nail polish, long hair and no beard at all.
I hate hiding and now that I live in a gay friendly town Asheville, NC (A-SHE-VILLE) and I'm out all around town, why should I ?
To that end I am thinking of wearing a old fem outfit and a little make-up.

I would do it if I could look like some famous or historical woman, but I would not just go to work (as much as I would love to) just wearing one of my outfits.

Dee, Dear, what on earth kind of work do you do that would destroy your breast forms? It must be very challenging.

I run a machine that roles black plastic pipe into coles that weigh from 30 to 85 ld and up to 300 ld. and stack higher than I can reach.

My work is having a Halloween party Friday. I have thought about going to work en femme, but don't want to freak out my sons. So, I am going to take my clothes in and change there like I normally do anyway (I'm in the military and they don't like the gay/lesbian thing. But, this is for Halloween, so "it's just a costume." But, like most of the post on the internet I have seen, I am worried about showing off too much. We'll see.

It would probably be best not to dress at work. Especially with your job.
Of course maybe you could dress somewhat just to make it humouros and not all the way in fem.

I think that I'll tell my co-worker about my dressing, Friday or Saterday and see how well that goes over, before trying it Sunday (as he is so open to the GBLT scene), if that goes OK.

Maybe a short skirt over slacks, a top and a stuffed bra (not my breast forms, as they may rupture as I work).

Thanks "ya all", for all the posts.

I can't advise you, but I would like to make an argument for NOT dressing at work, even on Halloween.

I can see things from the owner's standpoint. It's their company and they have a legitimate right to want things to run smoothely. Out of respect for them, I would go out of my way to not make unnecessary waves. That's what I get paid for.

I understand that you're in Asheville, but not everybody up there is as "open minded" as you--as I'm sure I don't need to tell you.

In other words, it seems like sound policy to me to keep personal and professional life separate.

Just my .02.
