Today I was shopping in a town in central Scotland, and visited a new independent boutique for the first time. I was wearing women's clothes but was not rying to look like a woman. I had on black opaques, slightly feminine ballet flats, male trousers, slightly shaped cream turtle neck, pearls, big scarf and a male hat, with a male messenger bag. No one turned hair.

In the shop, the lovely owner gave me verdicts as I tried on a few dresses and a blouse (boobs and bra added in changing room then removed). I bought a dress and a blouse, and said I would think about another dress.

I did some more shopping, buying a top in an another shop, and decided I would take the dress I had tried in the first shop, and returned wearing a flared knee-length skirt and medium heeled courts.

Once again she was encouraging, and I bought the dress I had tried earlier, plus a skirt. The owner observed that I was wearing heels this time and had not been earlier. She had not noticed the change from trousers to a skirt, despite me chatting with her for about ten minutes on both visits. And this is a woman who sells womenswear for a living!

So - all this stuff about people not noticing what you wear is true - as long as you just behave normally.

Like has been mentioned before, they don't really care. They are in business to sell, and that is what they are doing.

I'm sure she noticed...but they didn't disapprove. In fact, I'm sure were well aware and entirely happy to find another new customer.

I don't know if I totally agree with your observation that no one notices Susan. I do agree that most men do not notice or pay attention to what you are wearing, but I find that many woman certainly do pay attention to what you are wearing. I am usually out and about shopping at least 3 or 4 times a week as Nicole and the female SAs definitely do notice what you are wearing and then comment on it. The SAs that I have become friendly with will comment if I am wearing something that I purchased from them and also notice when I am wearing something purchased in another store.

It is so nice to be noticed by someone and paid a complement on what you are wearing and how you look.

Cash is king or queen. So long as you blend you won't be noticed (ie commented on). I'd say most don't care as they know a sale is the most important thing along with keeping their job.

It proves again money talks louder then words! Sure she noticed but she noticed the money louder! Hugs!

Yes no one takes any notice most of the time even if you are recognised as being a CD. Buying feminine things is easy especially if you appear or dress enfemme. People will look at you strangely if you are a nervous male buying feminine clothing.make up etc. But as some one else commented Money for a sale is what the store wants all the time

Sounds like a blending moment Susan. I have fought this fashion idea in my head for way too long. My brain wants to be in a miniclub dress with 5" heels and long blonde hair while my visual brain says, stick with the knee length skirt, opaques, turtleneck and 4" heels.. Hey, I'm just a girl inside and loves the heels, what can I say. So blending in is where I'm headed and not wanting to make a scene.

However, that being said, there are some us girls that love to stand out. I say power to the standouts. Love it.... as I blend into the background and disappear....

I think one of the best tests I have come across lately(Tonight) I travelled on the tube (central line) between marble arch and oxford st.
Over here you sit against the wall and face each other. (Do not make eye contact) There is plenty of time to check the passenger opposite you and if you watch their faces
you can get a fair idea if they have read you. Again don't worry we all get off at the next stop any way and another round of eye contact takes place.
These subways are unlike US in so much as every one sits in pairs or in line as in a bus seating arrangement.
It is a good test of your stamina to be the only one on one side and have five or six people LOOKING AT YOU.
You will gain confidence very quickly.

Ditto! It's all about making that sale, the more the better, especially during the holiday season!

OK, I didn't make myself clear. She knew I was a man from the first visit. I had already bought a blouse and dress, and as this conversation was taking place I was paying fro another dress and a skirt. The sale was in the bag. She then commented on the shoes. She had not registered that I had been wearing trousers the first time and a skirt the second time. No hidden agenda, money not involved. Sometimes we forget that SAs are just saying what they think - and what is wrong with taking comfort from that? She seemed to me to be a lovely, open and honest woman, and one of the great pleasures of going out cross-dressed or (as in this case) semi cross-dressed, is the lovely people I meet.

I think its great that the SA accepted you as you were, with not issues whatsoever.

i do not ware any mens things anymore. and weather in drab or dressed up a bit, no body cares, or says anything. the stores want money (see macys of late), and even at the grocery stores no problems. in public most are just doing there lives and most likely do not even know you are there. yes there will be some knuckle dragers...just deal with them by passing them by like they are not there.
when out dressed just be your self and remember you are a lady so be one.

Ok here is a current example....I went directly from work to a local thrift store. I was wearing construction attire and hadn't shaved for 3 days (face that is). I bought a pair of flats (new) and 4 bangles. The cashier just rang them up and I was off.
