To show empathy is to identify with another's feelings. It is to emotionally put yourself in the place of another.

There's a test to determine your empathy quotient at:

http://glennrowe.net/BaronCohen/EmpathyQuotient/EmpathyQuotient.aspx

That is, select your gender, then take the test. It appears that the gender selection is used to compare your results to the norm, not to weight the questions. Thanks Niya, for catching that.

I rate significantly below average according to that test.

I have raised the matter of empathy with both of my therapists; they both feel my empathy is above average. So I dunno.

I scored 32, if I could read faces better I would have a higher score but sometimes I fail to see true emotions :(

Tested as female and scored 70. I have always know that I am highly empathic, it used to scare my mother because I could almost read her thoughts.
She always tried to laugh it off as I was born a Pisces.

Scored 76, I'm a Pisces too, lol. I actually get kinda annoyed when I see people argue with each other because it's so easy to see what sets each of them off and how to solve their problem. Problem is they don't want to hear it from you lol.

I scored 49 - pretty average for the woman that I am, but in the systemizing test I scored 18 (an average woman scores 24 and an average man 30)

EDIT: I just took the Autism test and scored 13 (most women score 15 and men score higher than that)

I am a Virgo scored 38 about what you would expect of a Virgo we can be a pain in the butt not understanding why people do not see things our way.

39, after all I'm not socially awkward. I'm more what you would call socially terminal. :p

Oh and 10 on the systemizing one, probably as high as that because I know a hell of a lot about PC hardware :)

What the heck, this looks interesting. ;) [goes and takes test]

Ok, I got a 64 (seems about right) and FWIW my sign is Cancer. Shocker, huh? Haha. I'm not sure how much you can really get out of a test like this, sandra-leigh. I'm sure you're a very empathetic woman, perhaps just unconventionally so?

I got a 62 registered as a male. I know myself fairly well so I'm not too swayed by these so-called "test-results", but I still enjoy the fun of doing them.

First let me point out that choosing a gender does NOT change the result and is for statistical purposes only :)

I received some rather odd results from the 4 tests.
Empathy quotient: 57 [53 - 63 is above average]
Reading the mind in the eyes: 30 [typical score is btw 22-30]

Now the odd results -
Systemizing quotient: 57  [51 - 80 is very high]
[three times as many people with Asperger Syndrome score in this range, compared to typical men, and almost no women score in this range]

Autism Spectrum quotient:33 again  [32 - 50 is very high]
[most people with Asperger Syndrome or High-Functioning Autism score about 35]

So would someone care to explain how a person can score very high in the Systemizing & Austism Spectrum quotients yet have an above average empathy score as well?
[People with AS or HFA tend to have low empathy towards others.]

I also do wonder how having an above average IQ correlates with the possible skewing of the results of the last two tests as well. IE: Do people with higher then average IQ's inadvertently show and/or share certain traits with people who have AS or HFA and what is the average recorded IQ of people with AS and HFA??

Please don't go basing life decisions on its results!

Phewy!
If I want to base life decisions on anything it's going to be calling Heads or Tails on the quarter in my pocket. Now that is the way to go about it :lol2:

Please don't go basing life decisions on its results! Just have fun with it!

I based a life decision on the results I got, and I am not sorry or feeling silly at all.

The decision I made was to talk to my "life therapist" on the matter of empathy, which is something that I already knew I am not the greatest at, a situation that has led to long term problems. It turned out to be a quite good discussion; I'm glad I raised the subject.

If the quiz sparks a sincere and realistic mental review of one's aptitudes, then that is (IMHO) no bad thing.
