I finally found a job today. It is at a local Subway restaurant....its a job :) The exciting part is that I went for my interview presenting female and they hired me. It will feel so good going to work and not have to hide who I am. I told them I was mtf and they were fine with it....even had the decency to put me at a location where they feel I will fit in with the clientel. I am sooo happy :)

Ok so you made a mistake telling they you are trans in the interview. Now if you really are a woman you should read this really carefully. When you start your job you should NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER talk about trans stuff ever again at work. You should never admit your trans at work!!!!! Do your job and keep the trans talk for someplace else. If you ever admit it there you will never be able to take the words back. You will be that trans girl working at Subway instead of that girl working at Subway. Even if its odvious your trans you should keep your mouth shut.
Take the advice of those that have come before you and made the mistakes and learn from thier mistakes or pay the price.

Hi Katie,
That will be fine when I can be choosy about a job but I have been out of work for 3 months. If it wasn't for my parents I would be living on the streets. So thank you for the advice and I will use that knowledge in the future.

Thank you all so much :) My first day was today and it was great. Everyone refers to me as she or her.....I love it. Interacting with the customers was awesome and I didn`t get anything but smiles....even had a young gentleman flirt with me.....ha ha. I really enjoy working there.....what a nice group of people.

Tracy, it's a job as you say. I say it is a new chapter in your wonderful life. Embrace it and be the best 'sandwich girl' you can be, one step at a time girl. Soo happy for you and I bet the customers love the smiles you give them one by one. If they only knew why you were really smilling :)

This is so huge to me. I am seeking a job myself and am so afraid about the trans stuff as well as the newness of the job. I applaud you so much. Especially in York, PA if that is where you are. York is such a churchy, amish area. Seems really conservative. My former in laws are from there and completely have disparaged me even though I was so nice to them for 20 years. Subway rocks! Work hard and live well...as the real you!

I think you will find the majority of people will be respectful. There will be the occasional smart ass but my experience working with the public is they are pretty far and few between.
The best part of this is it will build your confidence living as a woman beyond anything you thought possible. If for no other reason it is cause the person who signs your paycheck doesn't have a problem with you being TG.
With having a hard time finding work - yeah that is still an issue for many folks. Job hunting is a job in itself.
But yeah keep us updated on how things go.

Thank you all so much for the support...it helps keep be moving forward. Today I was informed that they are going to start training me to be a shift Supervisor. I can't believe I've only been there 3 weeks and they are moving me up. So that means more money at a time when I really need it. I am so happy and thankful that I am working with such a supportive team. Thanks again ladies...you're the best. :hugs:

Well in a lot of restaurant or retail places, 3 weeks is actually longer than many people last and they probably get a sense you are not going to just up and quit. I know where I work, at least 1/2 the new hires don't stick around beyond ONE week.
Even IF things do not work out at subway for whatever reason, think of this - with a "supervisor" title, it will look better on future applications.
