When was the first time your nails were polished ('Varnished' to you brits ;-) ) Did your mother or older sister or babysitter do it to you? I remember seeing , in the late 50s, when I was in the third and fourth grades, several boys sometimes showed up with red polished nails.---Their big sisters did it to them so they said, and against their will, usually. They didnt seem to be particuallarly upset or bent out of shape about it.---- It was so common I really didnt think it as particualarly masculine or feminine at all.

But still I wouldnt let my mom do it to me at the time----and my sister was my LITTLE sister, so I didnt have to worry about her.

I was about 13 when I applied my first nail polish to MYSELF---when Mom was away.---I had already begun to CD since then, starting with Lipstick since age 12. I was pleased at how easily and completely the otherwise durable nail polish came off with the use of polish remover.---- I really didnt, and dont, polish my nails very often after that--only every now and then.

Hi Marina,

I remember at about 5 yo begging my mother to put nail polish on my nails. I think she did it to keep me quiet. I remember being in school around the same age and seeing one of my playmates with polish on his nails. I remember pointing it out to everyone. I guess I had a desire to dress even then. The first time I actually had my nails painted was by my ex-wife. I have really strong nails and I grew them out and had them painted. I'll never forget the feeling of looking at my hands with painted nails. The redder the better.

Love, Jo

P.S. Love your Halloween makeup.

okay.... this is rubbish:

Had my thumb randomly painted by someone in the college production during rehearsals. It was just a laugh, but I remember thinking, "so this is what it feels like."

Like Heathr1 .......I to was treated to the 'bitter almonds' NO Bite polish as a child, the worse part was that night I went to the cinema (movies to the North American's here ) and bought Glossetes .... needless to say, they tasted awful :( when mixed with bitter almond... thanks for bring that childhood memory back. I guess I was about 8 or 9 at the time ..

It was probably back in 2000 or so, when my mom started working again. Occasionally i would be off school on the "staff days", so it means 8 hours to myself. So i would run up to my mom's room, and put on everything. Mostly dresses and suits, since my taste in casual clothes runs counter to both my sister and my mother :P. Anyways, i would have time to try on the makeup, earrings (my mom never got her ears pierced, because she infects easily) as well as the nail polish. As stated earlier, my taste runs counter, so i never really likes the colors, though.

Fourtunately, being in college has allowed me to get my own colors. Hooray for light pinks.

Speakin of has anyone found a flat clear that I can where to work? As it is now when Diann wants to wear polish I take clear and top coat it with latex clear flat from the hobby store, it lasts all week but it turns and kinda gets crackly but it is the only thing that I have found. I love the feel of nail polish. Toes don't feel the same why?

When I was younger, my baby sisters would do it to me all the time.
As well though, I sort of new I was a girl in a way as I use to paint my Make-Up Barbie head I had gotten for Christmas one year......:)

Have recently encouraged my wife to paint my nails for me. Just the toes at the moment but am hoping she'll do my fingers soon.

Although my job doesn't allow it, I do try and grow them,in fact my little finger nail on my left hand often gets long enough for my wife to get jealous!
Her nails seem to break easily.

The best bit is when they get long enough for her to give me a manicure. Something very special about her doing this for me.

The first time, heck, the ONLY time I've done my nails was several years ago for Halloween. My wife did the guy thing, and I did the girl thing. I put on long nails, and polished them. We went to a party. Having long, pretty nails really changes things. Everything you do, you have to do differently. I really enjoyed it. We got home late, and I went to bed still wearing the nails. I didn't take them off until the next morning, giving my wife the excuse that I had been too tired the night before. The reality is, I just didn't want to part with them yet.

I don't do nails these days because of the time involved. When I dress, I only get to do so for short time periods. I need to be able to get back into guy mode rather quickly. Such a pity! I'd love the opportunity to really deck out again someday...nails and all.

I have been wearing polish on my toenails on and off since I was 10 years old and currently wear open toe sandals in guy mode with red polish on my toenails. I would never wear sandals without a professional pedicure and red nail polish on my toenails. I am currently wearing OPI I'm not Really a Waitress. So pretty. :-)

The first time it ever happened to me was when I was 19. My girlfriend at the time (after doing her own) wanted to do mine..."just for fun". I enjoyed the attention and kept the polish on for the whole evening.

I purchased the OPI nail Envy in matte a few weeks back. It was not a cheap purchase I got it in London Drugs and it was around $28 cdn (taxes in) and have been wearing it ever since, it's a subtle finish, noticable, but not, if that makes any sense.

means you can still be a little girlie on the outside and not been afraid of being caught, it's a nice extra to the times we go DRAB and were out panties / stocking or hose under.

It was during a Weekend with my Father.
I think it was around 6-7 yrs Old. I was with my Father, and his current Gf's at the time.

We were at a Pizza Joint, when The GF started to paint her Nails in a red. She asked me if i wanted my nails painted, and I said Ok.

So, for a Night and a Day I had Red Nails, until I got home, and my mother Somehow, Without Nail Polish remover got The Polish Off.

I also remember the Ride Ho,w to my Moms, The GF put a pinkish Lipstick on me in while riding in the Car, I remember showing up to my mom's With red nails and Pink Lips.

She wasnt really Thrilled, But She let it go!

I didnt start painting my own nails Till I was about 13 and had allowance to Buy my own Nail-Polish and Make-up!

I wore black nail polish on my hands at work (I was working at a t-shirt silkscreening place) and the people didn't bat an eyelash. After I left that job I started to wear red nail polish on my toes and hands. I have been wearing nail polish all of the time in male mode on my feet and hands for the past 3 years and am comfortable with it. I have been able to wear 1" acrylic nails for months and you are right you have to do things differently.:)
