Info for company on transitioning at work?

My company is a small family company (less than 30 people) and has no HR dept. Everything is handled by the top leaders. I have shared my heart about wanting to transition and so far it has gone well. They said we would manage to work through this and that my job was safe (I've been with them almost 30 years as a senior tech). I am very excited, but still try to temper that excitement, especially after reading the "Change of heart" thread.

Anyway, my question is, can anyone link me to information/guidelines my company would need to have to work through this process? Information that a larger company might would have in their HR dept, that I could give them as guidelines?

When I transitioned I purchased a three ring binder and some separation tabs and built a transition information book for my employer.

I lent HR the book True Selves. It contains information for companies on how to deal with a transitioning employee and on how to inform others about it. There are examples of letters in it.

This is a really important process and i am glad you are being proactive. There are many good resources out there. Out and Equal is a good place to start. Go to WWW.opm.gov and do a search for transgendered, this will get you to a copy of the U.S. Government policy for transgendered employees in the federal work force. You can download it in PDF format.
