View Full Version : The Soothing Power of a Bath and Shaved Legs

Today was a blah winter day. It was overcast, damp, drizzly, gloomy, and chilly outside. Both my wife and daughter went out and about on the town, spending some quality mother-daughter time together, thereby providing me with a somewhat small, but quite precious, window of free time alone. Based upon the foul weather, however, there was little reason to spend any amount of time unnecessarily outdoors on this dreary day. The emptiness of the house was stark, though, and depressing in its quietness.

Or rather, it was depressing until I decided to draw a bath with the hottest water I could stand, light a few candles, put on some Miles Davis, and relax by taking a very long, hot, scented bubble bath.

Once drawn, I eased carefully into the caressing grasp of the bath’s gripping heat. Laying back in the tub, the soothing power of the bath was magnificent in its simplicity. The act of doing nothing within the hot, comforting bath took on a life of its own. The heat of the bubbly and oil scented water seemingly penetrated my skin, and warmed my bones to the core.

Such a bath mollified the muscles and tranquilized my soul. As the steamy scented vapors of the water rose up into the air, I breathed deeply as time slowed, taking on comfort, defining anew the concept of relaxation. It was pure bliss, made only better by the act of shaving my legs.

As a general rule, I keep my body free of hair from the neck down. Much of the time, I epilate. Some of the time I shave. But most of the time I do not take my time as I did today. Taking a new razor with Miles Davis playing in the background, lifting my right leg out of the heavenly, bubbly water, I lathered up, and slowly, ever so slowly, methodically, and meticulously, shaved my leg. The moment was luxurious. The moment was opulent. The moment was sexy. It was pure, feminine ecstasy. I repeated the moment, shaving lovingly, carefully, and caressingly my other leg, as well.

Thereafter, as I always do, I ran my hands up and down my legs. Slowly but surely, feeling the smoothness I cultivated, the glass-like feeling, the soft, exhilarating, joyousness of denuded legs, it was intoxicating unto itself. It was sensuous, seductive, and provocative. It was right. It was as it should be.

Do you find shaving your legs to be a necessary act? What circumstances do you draw the most joy from shaving your legs?

most days, I'll admit that shaving my legs is a necessary evil. But I do enjoy the sensual nature of shaving on those rare occassions when my wife and I enjoy the jacuzzi tub together. So, like your expereince, its not so much the task as the situation that dictates.

Such a beautifully vivid description Anne, perhaps the stuff of a Skintimate or Venus Razor commercial at some point??? ;)

Technically, shaving the legs is simply a utilitarian act, something which we as human beings choose to do for a myriad of reasons. Yet in our world, I'd be tempted to call it a guilty pleasure except for the fact there is nothing to feel guilty about. Perhaps a unique pleasure is more like it, something that your average male doesn't give any thought to which is fine by me. They can keep their yucky leg hair and we can enjoy our little secret insight.

And there is me, jump in the shower, splodge on the gel, rinse, and I’m good to go.
Am I missing something Anne?

Love you, SUZY

You hit the nail right on the head Anne, and so beautifully worded. The only difference between you and me is that I listen to Dave Brubeck.

Anne: you found the right place to scratch! 1:30 this morning, could not sleep. Got up, draped a cloth over the spigot to mute the falling water sound (wife WAS sleeping, darn her!). Read some of a Clancey novel i've read before, easy fast reading. around 2:00, i grabbed a chunk of white scotch-brite (white- the matrix- but no abrasive- no sctatches while cleaning soft surfaces) and exfoliated (abraded, loofah'ed) my legs, tearing off the thin layer of dead skin cells covering the 39 hour old growth of leg hair. (I guess this is one of those 'guy' things i do while primarily en femme- silly girls do not know what they are missing!- easy fast engineering solution, ala Karren Hutton) Using a three times used triple blade razor, i began gently, oh so gently shaving my legs while reading still. Takes practice, you'll probably get a few nasty cuts or gouges at first- but reading while shaving- you can take as much time as you need- slow down. i just use suave shampoo as a shaving lotion- cheap- does not leave as much of a film in the tub, and a quick rinse gets the skin super clean. I'll use real shaving creme if i'm shaving super close.

in the midwest, drawing from Lake Michigan, we have the worlds best water supply, and the best tasting city water to boot- it's a luxury beyond avarice- nice clean rinse, bit of suave skin lotion on the legs- Not too much; i'm going back to bed. crawl in without my satin pj bottoms this time- cooling off promotes sleep. The 1200 thread count sheets my awesome wife got from Tuesday Morning (King set; $69, and SOOO worth it) feel so sensuous. 5 minutes snuggling with her (she seems to like the smooth skin on my legs) , we both get too warm, turn over, and i slowly drift into REM sleep odd- strange scenarios-- but all in unrivaled comfort....

Attached, a freshly shaved leg, (this one shaved while while reading in a jacuzzi- jacuzzi suites at holiday in express cost only 10-30 bucks more per night- a great indulgence. LOTS of fun- super decadent.) playing with a few dresses before i cooled off enough to put on hose and underthings and such.., pair of sheer energy (or two) really help smooth out the bumps and make the muscle look like a sub-q adipose (that wonder layer of female 'padding')

Hey Kim-babe- think 'necessary ritual' rather than 'evil' Granted some of the nicks and gouges i've given myself (always while traveling for work, what do you make of that?) have been evil- and yes it is a half hour or more out of yor life every 1-3 days.... but not evil. A decadent time waster, scary requirement, yeah, not quite evil... :-)

hugs, and don't forget to exfoliate before shaving- BIG BIG difference hon, trust me! :-)

Definitely necessary!! I was practicing patient-teaching on compression hose the other day on a lab partner, and I was trying to hide my horrified face when I realized she doesn't shave...like...ever.

I coached myself that not everyone has the same beliefs about body hair that I do...body hair isn't disgusting... (YES, IT IS! YES, IT IS!)

And, I feel I performed well in my exercise.

I love taking a bath at night and shaving. It feels so nice to have a glass of wine and read. But, sometimes it turns into the morning rush of shaving while praying you don't hack off a limb.

I think there's excitement in my morning shaves though...

I felt embarrassed when I told my friend the other day that I will go a day or two in the winter without shaving my legs. And, she admitted she doesn't shave in the winter. I just stared at her. She said, "What?! I'm single!" I told her, "Mhmmm...I know why!" Hairy legs feel bad in pants...I'd itch my legs off if I didn't shave. I also like to "run" in bed before I go to sleep. I don't know why I do this, but I just rub my legs up and down in the sheets right before I fall asleep. I guess it's soothing? But, it sure is nasty if you have prickly legs...

Shaving is a must.

I usually shave mine on days I go out. After the evenings festivities I always hate that is over, having to remove my feminine self an go to bed. Then I slip my shaved legs into the sheets and it's such a wonderful reminder, and one of my favorite things about being Jess.

So much for what we do being all about the clothes. The second-best experience of this "maintenance" is how your clothes feel on legs that have just been shaved. Miles would approve...

I love your threads, Anne, but find them so well thought out and written that there is little I can add to enhance the beauty of your thoughts. Never would I have thought someone could write such a subliminally erotic piece about a bubble bath and shaving ones legs. You have a rare gift.

It's part of the "costume" and being in character I guess. You don't, however, need to have an en femme mindset to enjoy a bubble bath and shaved legs. Bubble baths are an EOE (equal opportunity experience) ;):)

Great story Anne. GGs are amazed when I tell them I enjoy shaving my legs every other day (sometimes everyday, I hate how any stubble feels). Doing it in the manner you did sounds great and i'm going to try it but I'll probably listen to Beethoven. In my opinion, shaving my legs is one if the best parts of being a CDer.

You are such a wonderful writer Anne with incredible sensitivity, it is a marvel that the world has allowed someone like you to survive.

There are acts of love, sometimes these acts are heroic such as when someone lays their life down to save another, other times it may be the simple kindness of holding a door for a stranger and through this act acknowledging their value as a human being worthy of consideration. Taking time to look a child in the eyes giving them your full attention so in that moment they know they are real and have value.

Than there are the acts of love we show ourselves, something who for many is very difficult to do because we are often in a mad rush to be loved and so ignore that most vital relationship, the one we have with ourselves.

We touch others sometimes from hunger but other times because in that moment we remember or realize how important they are to us, it may be the simple act of holding their hand or wrapping our arms around them in embrace and so for a brief moment two becomes one but yet we ignore the loving touch we can give ourselves, a touch that is also separate from satisfying an appetite.

When I shave my legs I experience all that you described but I call it loving myself, not in the superficial narcissistic sense of responding to my physical image and not as a erotic act but the simple act of saying "Hi there friend, How have you beeen lately? Everything OK with you ?"

Sometimes I think what I call feeling feminine is as much a feeling of love for myself as it is everything external but this love comes from somewhere else and has little to do with me but not being masculine is what has allowed it to be born, I'm feminine in the absence of masculinity and feel very fortunate for that.

you know when a dog circles it's bed....like that. All smoothy silky smoochy legs all rubbing and gliding and hmmmmmm. And then you just find the right spot and settle.

I just laughed really hard at this comparison to "running" in bed.

But, I'll be damned if it doesn't seem to fit! hahaha

Anne, thanks for another awesomely apt post describing one of the many wonders of the cross-life! (: It's a great reminder how fun even something as simple as leg shaving can be. I must admit, I'd completely forgotten. My daily routine is usually an unsensual balancing act of trying to get it all done without slicing myself open, before the hot water runs out! :heehee:

Love my baths, can't get out while the water is still warm, so I turn into a prune. Woohoo!
