Not at all, not at all- If you just get a pre-made costume and toss it on, well, then it's just a cheap costume. But if you look for real articles of clothing- with nice tailoring, good fit- for instance- the french maid- consider separates- a skirt and a top more latitude to customize- you can always sew them together if you like the idea of a dress- but take your time a get some reall goo quality items- and add some nice lace and ruffles (as to your taste) the end result, though it may take months to get- will be awesome and, i promise you, very UN- "un-outstanding": It will be the only one like it on the planet! How cool it that!

Take it from me- gettng a real outfit or uniform, rather than a cheap halloween costume, is worth the time, trouble, effort, and cost. Period!

ummm.. Yeah. The movie is: OSS117 "Lost in rio" it's a french spoof of an old series, with Jean DuJardain, and of course, Louise Monot. (Check your library system- if they do not have it- request it. (Libraries love requests for lesser known and foriegn films- if you do request it, i'll bet you it shows up within 4-6 weeks. One of my requests- a CD by Europa Galante- Scarlatti- was on the reserve shelf in 5 days,!!!) She's a french Geena Davis and about 5 other of the hottest sexy actresses ever- rolled up into one. I'm pretty much a 50s kind of girl. Pantyhose haven't even been invented yet. Corsets and girdles are the norm, all women wear heels, and "Detroit Iron" rules. Women were amazingly attractive. The product of their efforts is what we now call the "baby boom". That's a pretty good indicator of what a great time for womanhood that era was.

I think a 1950's era secretary would be my ideal way of dressing on a daily basis. Pencil slirt, nylon slip, and of course the proper underclothes for that time. - a Chinese cheongsam (shortened to a mini) and China doll wig

Oh, I'm in tears. I remember watching this when it originally aired. Gone With The Wind was being shown for the first time on TV on another network against The Carol Burnett Show. This entire sketch was done live. And her coming down the stairs in her new dress is one of the most classic and funniest moments in television history. My ultimate one is as a mermaid. Lots of fancy dress stores have these suitably slinky dresses or skirts with outlandish bras and wigs, but I'd like to go that one step further and go in a skintight tail that holds your legs together and walking is physically impossible. Obviously wouldn't be very practical at a party, but it wouldn't bother me!

Tonight, i'm wearing a Tadashi evening gown in an iridescent dark teal colored stretch taffeta, long full skirt- no crinoline or petticoat for fullness though- 3/4 length sleeves. The sound it make when I walk is enough to weaken my knees- and these babies (knees) leg press 1/2 ton regularly! You get an idea of how great this dress is. Kind of like an oscars outfit, not as haute couture though. Still not sure what shoes to wear... i have some pretty ubiquitous 3" open toed silver satin pumps, but i also like some of the 4"-4.5" heeled boots i have under this skirt...

i guess i could be one of the "seat fillers" at the awards, people who sit in the chair of those who go up to get awards, head to the loo, or whatever...

Don't ask such complicated questions of me tonight- i'm just here for the show and to socialize.... :-)

but- as a blonde cowgirl? Yeah. Liz hurley as Miss Kensington in the first austin powers movie... anywhere, anytime. i love the way she reacted when she fished for compliments from Austin when she asked about the spy "Alotta Fagina".

I have two that I would love to go all out for in costume, but I can't quite figure out if it comes from how cute and feminine I view the characture in costume, or from my male side thinking the look is sexy?
