My therapist has made a healthcare provider who provides HRT to local TS patients available to me. She suggests a 3 to 4 month trial to see how I feel about their effects.

A 3-4 month trial will be unlikely to be long enough to expose you to any permanent effects if you decide this isn't for you... but will be more than long enough to know if it IS right for you. All other things being equal - it is a fair test to take...

But be sure that you are able to follow through if this is right for you, because trans acceleration is real. If this IS right for you, and you have the right hormones in your blood for the first time ever... you will not want to stop...

I'm happy for you!!

trans acceleration is very real...mine started the instant i rubbed that compounding cream on my leg....literally...it was 100% mental, but it was good info and helpful to my psyche to feel that way... I "just knew"...instantly..

If that doesn't happen, don't let it worry you...be open to whatever you experience and use it as a "data" for your decision.

Anna,

Excellent. Good for you.
I would say you would know whether HRT is right for you within a couple of weeks as the medication works within your system.

What is trans acceleration, I've never heard or read about that before?

Anna,

I don't know about trans acceleration - I have never heard that term.

But as far as M2F HRT effects on my body and my mind, it is FANTASTIC! I don't ever want to stop, and neither does my wife want me to stop.

But it might not be right for you.

I believe Hope coined the term, thanks Hope, it just means once a chink in ones armor has been found it dosen't take long for the whole fortress of denial repression guilt and shame to evaporate and suddenly you find yourself on the transition freight train! Next stop womanhood! This scares the living shit out of spouses.
In other words 2+2=8 8+8=32 it's not a linier progression but rather exponential.
Perhaps your goal is to "see how it feels" 6 months from now you might find yourself trying to decide which SRS DR your GOING to be having surgery with.
That's trans acceleration!

Thank you April for the clarification. How are you feeling after your FFS?

My therapist called it the wall.

At the beginning its a million feet high, and a million feet deep...but if you dare start climbing it, it just melts away faster than you could have imagined

I'm feeling pretty good thank you. Now it's back to your regularly scheduled programing, hair removal, ugh!

Anna,

I just completed my first month on HRT and as Hope said, I'm not going back.

My changes so far are: softer & smoother skin, face thinning, and best of all the mental changes. I'm more calm and less stressed than I was, felt like my head was going to explode due to the disphoria and some other major family issues going on in my life. I still worry about things but they don't stress me out nearly as bad as they did before.

I've been trying to loose weight since November and have lost 20 lbs so far, 10 lbs since January. I have gotten several comments at work and out that they can tell I'm loosing weight but I am sure some of it is my facial features changing a little too. I've kind of leveled out on my weight loss and haven't lost any for the last week or so, may be the hormones since I'm not doing anything else different.

They say if HRT isn't right for you that you will know it within a few weeks. I don't have a problem with it and am really looking forward to the additional changes to come. And like April said I have been checking out the FFS and SRS surgeons, but I was doing that before the hormones (just not as often).

Good luck if you decide to go on HRT, I hope it helps you as much as it has me.
