View Full Version : What female rock/pop/country/etc star would you dress as?

Looking at the recent thread "What's your favorite gender bending themed music or band/s?" I remembered a question i wanted to post:

What female rock/pop/country/etc. star would you want to dress (and perhaps karioke) as? Which look or outfit?

For the sake of argument- let's say it has to be a performed from no farther back than 1970 or so.

I'll start with a few- but honestly, there are so many...

Lene Nystrom of Aqua in "Around the world"- her white suit; Lene in any outfit from the "pretty young thing" video

Katy Perry (or any of her friends) in "California Girls"

Lilli Allen in "Alfie"

Jane Weidlin in almost anything.

Also- I wanna be a "Donna" in the band 'the Donnas"....

Well, how about you?.... :dom::doll:

Katy Perry is a great choice! But I'll pick one that's a little out of left field- Belinda Carlisle.

oh HELLA yes! love the short taffeta petticoated skirts!

I'm crazy about Louise Post and Nina Gordon from their Veruca Salt days, the Volcano Girls video was awesome- sexy-sweet-sensual in the sheets... <sigh>

nothing too fancy... but I always had a thing for Kim Gordon's style.
(I could say something Harajuku-inspired or gothic like early Tarja Turunen/Nightwish too. but I probably wouldn't be able to do it :x)

Mariah Carey! I'm not all that partial to her music and there's no way I could impersonate her voice, but if it meant trying on some of those incredible gowns from over the years, I'd be willing to give it a go!

Tough call, so many lovely ladies to choose from, but I guess if I could pull off weariing gold hot pants as well as Kylie Minogue, I'd be pretty stoked. Gotta support another Aussie girl I guess, and even though I don't listen to her music, I don't mind it, I worked as an assistant stage hand on one of her shows in Sydney a few years ago, and was totally blown away with her talent, professionalism and of course her beauty.

For me, it's Simone Simons from Epica, the most beautiful woman to ever grace music...

Hey, Britney Spears is incredibly attractive, she's just made some really bad decisions in her life that were left in the public eye.

But I don't think you have a chance at making a better Britney than Derrick Barry...

It depends upon my feelings at the time. When i was doing long distance running, I daydreamed the miles away with images of singing in the style of Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac. When I really need to get moving, I would think of Nancy Wilson of Heart (but I guess i am dating myself here).

After seeing Florence & the Machine perform on SNL, I am currently impressed with her style.

After seeing Florence & the Machine perform on SNL, I am currently impressed with her style.

I was also taken by Florence in that performance, especially after I found out she is near to 6 foot tall. Being 6'3" my self, it's great to see a sexy tall girl.

But I still have to say Shirley Manson from earlier Garbage, when her hair was red and not the short blonde flat top style.
Especially the Stupid Girl video. I'd put up a link, but can't do that from work. I know it can be seen on You Tube.

I've been impressed with many female musicians and their different looks over the years, but if I can only pick one particular outfit from one specific woman, it's this one:

This was at the 1984 MTV Awards. White stockings with garters, heels, teased hair and all that lace. :daydreaming: I still hold plenty of affection for her, but this was the moment that made me fall in full-on teen boy lust.

Holy crap that is uncanny! I could only wish to look that good! *sigh*.

Marleena,

Derrick Barry appeared on America's Got Talent about 3 seasons ago and put on an amazing performance as Britney. If memory serves me correctly, he actually made it to the 3rd round and the audience and Sharon Osborne and David Hasselhoff absolutely loved him. He struggled a bit with copying Britney's voice but had the looks and the moves down pat - so much so that he was almost indistinguishable from the real thing.

Sadly, Piers Morgan crapped all over him, exhibiting a considerable degree of not-so-subtle transphobia and homophobia in the process. Hard to say if this reflected Piers' own views, or was just a staged "good cop, bad cop" routine to stir the pot a bit and drive up the ratings for the show. Personally, I found his snide remarks very distasteful, especially since Derrick excelled so well at his artistry, and this was far from being a second-rate drag routine.

If you're interested, log onto youtube and type in Derrick's name. You'll find a number of videos of him performing as Britney, as well as out-takes from the show itself that amply demonstrate his superb female impersonation skills. He actually worked as a member of Frank Marino's An Evening at La Cage revue in Las Vegas at one point as well.

And while we're on the topic, check out our own home-grown version of AGT which is called Canada's Got Talent here, and is broadcast on the CityTV network. It began airing last week, and the second show featured a terrific Calgary female impersonator by the name of Terri Stevens, who apparently has done drag for a number of years now. He was just voted through to the next round, and I can't wait to see him perform again.
