Those of you who have read my post in the Safe Harbor section know that I went to my GYN doctor yesterday. I have been prescribed medications by both my shrink and my GYN for a total of 21 pills per day. YES! I know that is an insane number of pills but I truly need them.

My Problem: In the last several weeks, I have become so short of breath without exertion and get very dizzy. Whereas prior to this starting several weeks ago, those symptoms only occurred when I exerted myself.

My shrink and GYN are both monitoring my health together. They had me take an EKG which my GYN went over with me in yesterday's appointment. Everything was NORMAL and really good. My GYN did detect a heart murmur for the first time and is scheduling me for a heart ultrasound to see exactly what is going on. But she told me that could very well be caused by the high dosage of Hormones I am on. Nevertheless, they both agreed that this shortness of breath is caused by one or more or a combination of all the pills I take. So it is going to be a long process of tweaking my medications to fine the culprit.

My Question: Do any of you who are on HRT suffer from shortness of breath and/or dizziness? If so, has your doctors told you the culprit?

I have heart PVC's and some electrical issues...i got very worried about hormones...my doctor told me hormones were very unlikely to cause it...so that was comforting...

I myself haven't had any of them things. Also my Dr. hasn't warn me about them things. She deals with only TS's and FTM.

You may need a check up.

Traci,

I suffer vertigo attacks but mine are from Menier's Disease.

That's just another fun health issue I appear to have.

Actually, I had a very thorough check-up yesterday. And my doctors are tweaking my meds to see what is causing it as there are several drugs that can cause shortness of breath.

Julie,

You have vertigo...I don't envy you with that. My wife had that many years ago and they found that it was caused by a severe infection in her inner ear. It took about a year to correct the vertigo with medications.

Traci,

I'm sorry that your wife went through that. I feel for her. I was diagnosed with this in 2010 and have been to the hospital with uncontrollable vertigo attacks about nine times since then.
The really depressing thing is that it's permanently destroying my hearing.
The ENT specialist says I have about two years until I'm deaf.

Meanwhile back to your thread sister.

Shortness of breath and dizziness can both be triggered by Spiro.

Now I know you know about Spiro, so your main question here is about "even when not exerting yourself". I don't have an answer for that at the moment other than possibly spiro.

All I can add is that I have a pretty light heart murmur too. Nothing has been exacerbated or problematic because of HRT.

One of my cousins (3rd cousin??) has that. I believe she has a "hearing-ear" dog to help her. Anyhow, it does not sound like fun

Traci, i have episodic shortness of breath as well. I am fairly fit physically, and it seems to have started around the time i started spiro. That's what i attribute it too

I sure help it is that and not something else. But with a NORMAL EKG, I think I m safe but I have more tests scheduled and my doctors and tweaking my meds.

But I will tell you that being short of breath from doing nothing is a real pain in the royal ass! I hate it!

I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but it sounds like something is causing low blood pressure, which I do have some experience with myself. One of the difficulties is that a doctor's appointment generates stress and stress raises blood pressure, so getting an accurate reading is difficult for some people. A couple of suggestions:
1.At the start of an app't. (which is when they normally take a blood pressure reading) ask them to take it again at the end. In a great many cases, there is a big drop in the reading the second time.
2. Buy a blood pressure meter. There are many available under $50; I've used a Braun for the past 15 years which has proven accurate and repeatable, and stays in calibration. Make sure to check the operation several times before purchase. The readings should not vary more than 5 points from each other; another thing is to try the in house "free meter" against the one you intend to buy.

First... You need your liver too dear.
thats kinda a vital organ...

And 2. I get dizzy from standing up too fast. But thats becuase i have naturally lowered blood pressure from being an athlete when i was younger and in the military.
Spiro dropped my bloodpressure only a little bit but going above 200mg might have an unsafe effect for me.

I've had no probs like that, sorry I know that does not help.

I am wiling to bet that the prob is caused by Spiro in combination with one of the other drugs. Spiro all by itself could cause this, so any other med that potentiates Spiro may be the reason. When I am working at the Pharmacy, the most common questions we get from the docs and nurses are drug interaction issues. If you combine a lot of meds it can be hard to avoid some unwanted interactions...

1. My blood pressured during the day is perfect, it's during the night including when I wake up. But YES, my doctor always takes my BP in the beginning and again when we are finished the appointment.

2. I have two BP meters one is a very expensive one my doctor gave me and the other is CVS Pharmacy brand. I am required by both my doctors to keep a BP chart EVERY DAY at wake up and mid-day. I have to bring those records with me on every visit.
