On April 11th I will be taking another huge step in my path of transition. I have made an appointment at the urging of my therapist to see a doctor about HRT. The earliest appointment was on that day so I am getting excited as to what will come from that appointment. I know that they will be doing a full blood work up because they have advised me to fast on the morning of the appointment as well as making me an early morning appointment.

I am just curious to hear about some of your stories from that first appointment for HRT.

April 11th can't get here fast enough. I have another appointment with by GT next week and I am so looking forward to it as well.

Have a great weekend

I wish you well in your treatment. I am also at the stage where I am seeking more information on HRT. I know you need to be evaluated and you must be under a doctor's care to monitor your development and changes and make sure your health is maintained.

My story?

Started hormones after extensive research on my own. Brought them from the well known internet source. Took them for three months and then made an appointment with a doctor. By then I was presenting female except for work. I went into the doc office and asked for the dosage. He wrote it and took a blood sample. I dont rember what the results of the test were but I do recall his representitive said I was ok with my levels when the results came back.

If I recall he gave me a years scrip and by the time I was done with the years worth I had gotten SRS. Stragely for my sutuation and my insurance it was actually cheaper at that time to continue to buy the Spiro from the internet site. Go figure.

These days I just take a small dosage and when I go to the doctor I just ask for a years script and tell them I had a historectomy. Cant see a reason for them to need to know my past.

Oh and I never did go see a therapist. I was not going to pay someone a lot of money to tell me something I already knew. Of course that was JUST my situation.

I brought off the internet for almost 6 months. Then I decided to find a Dr.. The Dr. thought I was crazy enough to be a woman and gave me prescription for HRT. So far everything is going good. Just waiting for a SRS.

I started HRT in 2001 and have not been off of it since.
My doctor said he had no experience in trans or intersexed patients but would be willing to take on my need for medication.
The rest they say is history and quite uneventful concerning HRT.

I have been on HRT for about 7 months now. I started somewhat similarly to Katie, did some research on my own, bought on the internet, then several months later went to an endo and got a "legitimate" script. Unfortunately in my case, I was doing a better job of managing my hormones than he was (yes, I know I posted a huge thread here about going to an endo, I was wrong). It seems he has an anti-trans bias, he gave me estrogen (less effective than what I was taking already) and kept pushing me to take testosterone, I suspect he thought it would "cure" me. So now I am back to buying on the internet and having my primary doc (who is very supportive) do the necessary labs. Good luck to you and I hope your doc helps you..........Stephanie
