Tattoo Ideas

Ok, so a while ago I had the thought that it might be cool to commemorate my going 24/7 with a tattoo. I've never wanted a tattoo before... but this seems like such an important thing for me to accomplish that... well... why the heck not?! I'm my new attempt to get things going, this idea popped back into my head.

I have had some ideas of what I wanted to do, but I wanted to see if anyone else here has any ideas.

Most of my tattoos have a memory that goes with them all comemorate my life. There are biker tattoos feminine tattoos there are tattoos designed by friends and tattoos done by my late wife. Many of these are being covered to look more fem. I'm truly a work in progress, I don't really hate any of them just want them to look more like something a woman would wear proudly.

here is what my wife wants to get-

Oolong- Mayland Long. I have to admit- of all the dragon images i've seen - this is my fave.

A pot of oolong tea and a good book. Nothing better exists.

How about a butterfly, a symbol of change

Think of something you really want that symbolizes something important to you. Take a sharpie or get some henna and put it on your body. Also draw it on some paper and keep it for a while... Take it to a shop and ask them how much it will cost to get done, thoroughly discuss it with them, and have them help you with touching up the design. (I would even pay them for their time at this point, but that's me :) ) If you still want it when you've let a month go by and have the cash in hand to pay for it all at once, then absolutely get it!

This, of course, is just my .02! :D I have a few tattoo's a will never stop loving, and a few I got when I was younger I am in the process of designing coverups for.

I like the butterfly idea too, classically feminine and yet symbolic of metamorphosis. Or a budding flower, same idea. You might add the date but I'm not a fan of text of any kind in my tattoos. It seems too "concrete" somehow, and I'd rather let the visual language speak for itself, so personally, I'd skip it. You will remember the date yourself and nobody else will really care.

Or get a pinup style image of the girl you'd like to become.

I sort of belong to the "all of the above" school, myself!

While deciding on what is appropriate and means/symbolizes the right thing for you, remember you will be explaining the meaning of this for the rest of your life ( even strangers often believe it is perfectly polite to ask you what a tattoo means....). There may come a day when you don't want to tell someone that it means when you went full time in a gender change.

I too have been thinking the same thing as well. I have done the get a design, hold on to it and if you still want it then go for it. I have picked out the state flower for the 2 states my kids were born in and place a colorful butterfly landing on one. Is like this on my upper thigh or my shoulder.

Also recently I have been thinking to symbolize my being Christian and trans, getting a rainbow colored Jesus fish on my right foot just above a sandal strap.

In the next few weeks I hope to have at least one of them.

I have a butterfly emerging from the cocoon with the date this happened. I chose the bikini area for it. It is something special to me. As a matter of fact, it's the only tattoo I have. When someone asks, which isn't often, I just tell them it was when an ugly ducking became a swan and leave it at that.

I've always thought the best tattoos were the one that had strong personal meaning and symbolism. I'm not a big fan of words or a verse. Also no cutesy cartoon characters or something that is topical today.

The date i am not too big on either. Let's say for some reason you decide in a month that you don't want to be 24/7 for even a short time. The date might be less meaningful in the future while a symbol is something you can always relate to.

I always felt I should have a tattoo, but I could never find one that I felt I would still like years later. Thank God, because years ago I likely would have chosen some manly thing just to prove how masculine I was. I also wouldn't celebrate my transition simply because it is such a short-lived part of my life -- it may have been a momentous time for me, but then it's done. Thus, my body is ink free. :)

It took me forever to decide on a tattoo, so before I got out the Navy in San Diego, I got a budding rose on the back of my shoulder. I still like it, even after 25 years, but I wish I could figure out what to add to it.

I would be amiss if I recommended any tattoo to you since I do not believe in them for women. And YES that is just my own personal biases.

And I know you know that a tattoo is for all practical purposes PERMANENT!

What you think you like today, will you like it 10, 20, 30, years down the road?

And you want a family...hey Mom, why do you have that tattoo? Can I get one? Why not, you have one Mom?

Why not try one of these high quality "temporary" tattoos to satisfy your urge?

No tattoos and I have no intention to ever get one. Funny thing is I know a gal who also is TS. She got a tattoo on her arm that is not exactly girly. Shes paid a ton of money to get it lasered and it still is there. She gave up and is going to get another tattoo over the top of it.

If they had a tattoo that vanished after a few years I might get one but since they dont I have no intention of getting one. I will spend my money on something other usless thing. LOL

I had a friend pose a similar tattoo question after she had her SRS. My suggestion was a little oval tatooed on her butt with the words:

Made in Thailand.

I don't want to be killjoy, but this does not sound like the thought process that should precede doing something permanent to one's body.

My standard advice to folks considering a tattoo is to settle on a design, date it, and put it in a drawer. Take it out every once in a while and make whatever changes seem appropriate. After a year has passed, if the desire to have the tattoo still survives, go for it!

I have only one tattoo. I will probably add to it in a manner to make it more androgynous or girlie friendly at some point in the future, as right now it's not femme. My one bit of advice is this; make sure that whatever you get done is something you will always agree with, be proud of, and want to express. Also, have it done in a place and manner that it will still look good and appropriate when you are 80 and in a nursing home. Gravity affects your tattoo as skin sags with age, that's something many people forget. Beyond that, it's your body. If you are willing to face surgery to be happy, there is no reason to avoid getting inked.

I have five tattoos with most of them depicting roses, and barbed wire.

A cashier at a grocery store asked me why the combination of barbed wire and roses that she saw in my tattoo on my right arm.
I replied it equates to being beautiful but deadly.
She liked that answer.

Hi Bree and everyone.
A very old friend who owned a tatto shop told me once, "You don't find a Tat..it finds you" His meaning was, you may not actually see the art..but the concept will stick in your mind. Once it's been unchanged for a while..it's time to find the artist to do it. I'm at the stage now, where I know that I will be getting an Orchid, likely on my left chest. Small, maybe 2-3 inches. Now to find the artist.

Most of the time in my life I am dressed and acting as a male (this while I try to figure out the extent of my TGism)...during all these hours in drab, I usually wear a girly bracelet, sliding it up my arm so that it's not visible, but that I can feel it. It's become my symbol, my talisman of my newly discovered "other (real?) gender. Bree, do you have something like that? A symbol that you use on your computer desktop, or your phone, or that you keep in your pocket? I'm not a tattoo person (yet!) but if I were to get one it would be of my personal symbol...so that's what I'd vote for...and, hey -- getting a small tattoo to honor your TSness is a wonderful idea!

Here is a pic of mine. It was drawn by the artist and my name is in the handwriting of someone very special to me. My only regret is that I didn't get it bigger. It is just above my bikini line. The blue on the outer part of the wings symbolizes the male I present to the world and the pink on the inside of the wings represents the woman that lives inside of me.

Just take your time and make sure it is someting that will always represent the way you feel and will always feel .Once the ink is down it is permanent .i have over 18 tats i know

i got one several years ago and now I wished i hadn't its in a spot that is very visible unless i wear a shirt with sleeves, and almost makes wearing a dress or a spaghetti top or some with straps impossible. im going to have to look into getting it removed at some point.

Have not done them yet, and won't for a couple more years, but I have researching designs and thinking about this for over 4 years now and I am at the point where I have pretty much settled on what I want. I would like to to two (2) to start, (one at a time) 1.) a very feminine ankel chain for my left ankel, with possibly a toe (pointe - See my Avatar) shoe charm hanging from it. (A lady at work has something similar to that idea.) and 2.) either two point shoes intertwined togeater, a ballerina en passe' (or possibly doing a grand jete'), or some form of the standard butterfly on my lower back/tramp stamp area. That's really all I think I would ever do, but if I decide to do one more, then it will be something for my pelvic area around my bikini line. That would absolutly be it. Nothing that can be seen unless I want them seen, and nothing big.
