Well I had the most interesting time at my nail salon Saturday afternoon. I had a 3:00 PM appointment and got there a little early, so had to wait a bit. While I was waiting These four young women came in. You could tell that they were girlfriends. I watch as they select what polish they wanted and I struck up a conversation with this one girl. She then decided to change her color, which cause the others to wonder if they should change theirs. This one girl changed hers again, which started another round. I looked at
Her and said “your being bad”. She looked at me and then started to giggle and said “ You noticed”. Which I reply I ‘yep”. Then Tina my nail tech came and got me and started my pedicure. All of a sudden, I hear “Oh your getting a pedicure”. I looked to my left and here was the young lady I had been talking to getting into the chair next to me. I looked at her and said “Why not, men like to be pampered too”. She looked at me kinda funny the started giggling again. She said, “You right, men should be able to be pampered from time to time”. She then started talking about how nice it was to meet a
Man that was not afraid to let his guard down and just be himself. I then said, “ You know that even men have a feminism side, but most men don’t acknowledge it or expose it.” Her eyes kinda got big, and she then looked past me and said to her girlfriends, “ I like this man”. Which made me feel real good. She told her girlfriends what I had said to her and again they got wide eyed, looked at each other and then started making comments about how sensitive I was and that their boyfriends could take some lessons from me. I laughed and said “Thank you”. So as we got our pedicures, I noticed how nice they were dressed. These were not your average 20 year olds, so I commented on how nice their outfits were, how there hairstyles complimented their faces, and even went as far as to say how well their makeup complimented their outfits. Next thing I know we are chatting about women’s fashions, hair, and makeup and how men don’t notice things like that except for me. How nice it was to be able to hold a conversation with a man and not have it turn into a conversation about cars or sport. Again I laughed and said, my wife is always commenting about that. They said my wife was really lucky to have me, which I thanked them for the comment. One even said that if she could find a man even similar to me that she would drop her current boyfriend in a heartbeat. I laughed again and told her that there are others like me out there and to keep looking, she would find them. She blushed and reached over and squeezed my hand. Then the pedicure was over and it was time to get our nails done. So I went to Tina and the girls went to other stations. For the next 30 minutes we chatted away about this or that. Then Tina was almost done and asked if I wanted my nails buffed. I said “one moment” and I said “girls, I have a question for you.”. I held my hands up in the air and asked “Buff or Polish”, They came over and took my hands into theirs, looked at my nails, made comments about how nice they were and again how their boyfriends could take some lessons from me. Then as a chorus they said “Polish”. I said “OK, Clear or Color”. Again I get this wide eyed look from them and they looked at each other and again in chorus “COLOR”. One said "wait one moment" and went over to look at the selection of nail colors. Tina looks at me and says “Are you about this”. I looked at Tina and said “yep, I trust them”. She says “OK”. The girls come back and hand a bottle to Tina. One of them looks down at my feet, then at Tina and says “Toes too”. I started to say something and one of the girls says “girlfriend, if you do the nails you have to do the toes”. I just closed my mouth and stared at Tina. Tina gave me that “I told you so” look, lean over and said, “Your blushing”, and started putting the polish on my nails. Then I realized what the girls said to me and I got all giddy and just sat there as they watched Tina put the polish on my nails. Tina did one nail and then held my hand up so the girls could see the results. It was then I noticed that the polish was a light PINK and it didn’t look bad at all. The girls approved and Tina finished my nails and then started on my toes. While Tina was doing my nails and toes, the girls went back to their stations to get their nails finished. Tina finished me and I walked over to the drying station. They have one of those that not only do you put your hands under the light, but they have a light for your feet too. While we were sitting there letting our nails and toes dry, they started commenting on how well it complimented me. Again the conversation went to women’s fashions and such. When we were all dry, Tina came over and sprayed my nails and toes. She said it would allow me to put my socks and shoes back on. So I got my socks and shoes back on and as I started to leave the girls came up and each gave a hug and a peck on the cheek. I thanked each of them and when I left the nail salon, I felt like I was on cloud nine and I even had their email addresses to boot.

That sounds like a nice day at the salon. I must admit I have only ever been for a manicure with clear polish, which is a lot more common for guys these days.

If you see these lovely girls again tell them to look me up

WOW!!! How kewl is that ;) It just shows you that the younger generation are more accepting of fem men. I'm not suprised you're on :c9: sitting in a salon getting pampered, there's nothing quite like it is there ;) and to top it off, chatting away with 4 other women like it was the norm.

I've always wanted a pedi and polish.

Is it acceptable in the UK for a man to have one in a salon?

Now that was a great story! And I'll admit a bit of envy snuck up on me while reading it. Yeah, the younger generation is more accepting for sure and your experience proves that. So happy for you Joann! But you made it all possible. Had you not been so comfortable with yourself you never would have enjoyed what you did. I'll bet you'll treasure that experience for a long time.
Way to go girl! :yrtw:

Great story!

As far as the younger generation being more accepting, I got a pedicure last week and had them do a light pink-bronze color on my toes. I saw my Pilates instructor the next day and explained by saying I'd gone in drag for Halloween.

She told me nail color -- and even some make-up -- is trendy with the (straight) fashion-forward guys up in SF and if I wanted to wear either, I should just go ahead and do it.

That is very true. I wear red nail polish on my toenails in male mode with women's low heel sandals all of the time. Everyone accepts the red toenails as a part of me and it is a girly-thing that I do not have to hide from anyone.

Jamie :-)

Hi Heathr1
I had a complete set of acrylics fitted at my salon last May. The beautician was delighted to do it for me and had even arranged a table at the back of the salon if I'd wanted to use it. Phone your local place and ask if they will give a male client a pedicure and polish - you never know you may be plesently surprised at the reply!!!!

It is illegal for them to refuse to give a male client a pedicure with polish and is actually the basis for a discriminatory lawsuit. There is no reason why they would not do it. Your money is as good any anyone else's money.

Puh-lease.... don't you think that's going a tad overboard?

OK, back on topic now ;)

ok, let me guess...
you don't happen to live in a redneck town in the southern USA?

and the big question...if they didn't want to paint your nails, would you really want to attempt to FORCE them to do so by threatening a lawsuit?

You can sue anyone for just about any reason. In my male mode I am a ,construction worker and we had a guy sue the company I work for because he missed his lunch break. There were things that had to be finished and we did't have time for a break He sued for 450,000 and won!! Lunch was a 30 min. break.

Joann -- what a wonderful story. I lived in Dallas in the 80's -- hard for me to imagine it happening there, then I remembered how fashion conscious many of the women in Dallas were at the time. That was one city where women did get dressed up to go shopping.

I'm so happy you had such a good time and made some new friends. We all benefit from your manner and how you related to the girls. Thank you!

Well there you go, that explains it.
I wouldn't advise doing that in guy mode in *many* other parts of the usa. ;)

First of all, I want to say that this was one of those times when you have to take a chance and push the envelope and see what happens. You will not believe how scaried I was when I called the girls over, held my hands up and started asking them the questions on what I should do. When Jennifer said "girlfriend........" and I relized what she said, I almost lost it. It is the first time I have had a GG call me that and I was SO suprised and pleased that I did get giddy. Then Tina (nail tech) said I was blushing and that made me even more giddy.

It turn out as a wonderfully 1 1/2 hr stay. The four girls DO know that I am married, so the GAY question was put to bed early. The funny part of all this is Tina and her husband Tony are watching and listening and I saw Tina sniker a couple times. I know the next time I go in, I am going to get a ear full from her about that visit. Tina likes to gossip and she will brow beat until I tell her all the details on what went on between the four girls and myself. Must make a note to get her a really good baby present. She is due in December. I suppect Tina and Tony both suppect that I'm a T-girl, since she mentioned that she has a couple of dressed T-girl clients in the other day. I guess that visit made it more evident. LOL
Yes, I have emailed the four girls. I told them how much I enjoyed sharing the moment with them and the next time they get together for a nail session, I would be pleased if I could share the experience with them.
I think the wide eyed look I got a few times was more suprise on their part. They kept saying that they wish all men could be so open as I was. They sure know how to put a man onto cloud 9. LOL.
NO, I'm going to be selfish and keep the girls for myself. You all have to find your own GG girlfriends. ROFLOL
BTW, they are all sorority sisters. All four went to UT and two have sicence degree's. The other two have MBA's, so these are smart smart girls.
