So for those who don't know I am a pilot. I had more or less just finished my training when I freaked out and transitioned, HA! I changed my name and gender marker on my Pilots Certificate months ago. The People at the local FSDO were Friendly, professional and helpful. The next step was to make sure I was good with the medical side of the FAA. that is were things fell apart. because of a previous issue they were not going to let me fly because of "life and hormonal changes" WTF!
Anyway don't be afraid to bitch! If the squeaky wheel gets the grease the female squeaky wheel gets the grease sent with a card and roses:heehee:
Anyway they recanted and I can now fly again. Jeez, all that just because of a little estrogen! and NO FABs do NOT have to put up with the same shit TSes do for taking HRT! ****ING GOVERNMENT!

Good for you April. What type of flying do you do and what ratings do you have? I'm just a Private SEL. I never did get my instrument because I can't afford to fly enough to maintain proficiency. How do you do with your voice on the radio? Have a great day! Leanne

So great, you sometimes have to wonder about the barriers put up simply because we are transgender.

YAY!! " And if you look out of the left side of the cabin you can see our captain April jumping up and down because she's our captain again."
Excellent April!!
Julia
Congratulations on getting through the bureaucratic BS, April.
I'm also a pilot, though I haven't flown for a few years. In fact, I wasn't aware of the need for getting your medical reviewed when on HRT until recently.

Thanks everyone, this is something that has been weighing heavily on my mind for a while. I bitched up a storm and started talking about discrimination If they couldn't come up with a legitimate medical reason why I shouldn't be allowed to fly, about 3 weeks later (today) I got this letter LOL!
I am a commercial pilot with an instrument rating, SEL (single engine land). I have my tailwheel, complex and high performance endorsements. I have flown mostly Cessna 172s but have time in 152s, Cubs, Bonanzas, 182s, and a Decathlon (aerobatic airplane; roller coasters are just boring after you've flown one of these things!). I have some time in a powered parachute as well.
I look forward to finishing my CFI (certified flight instructor) rating, which i was about half way through when I just couldn't take it anymore! I haven't flown in almost a year and a half!
Not sure what my voice will sound like over the radios but I assume it will sound like whatever it sounds like over the telephone and I always get ma'amed on the phone.

Congrats April! I have not flown in a while med exp money ect. I'm cert in sel mel inst and typed in hi perform, complex and rg. i hae been checked and typed in 152,172,177,210 and 310 cessna's. The list goes on 201 mooney, gruman aa5b single engine sliding canopy but one of my favorites is a restored stearman owned by a good friend of mine. I'm surprised i'm not a really BIG girl because we would fly to places to eat. lol I don't want to go on and on i just think it's great that you got your med cert back, happy flying and keep the shiney side up
