Intersex, in humans and other animals, is the presence of intermediate or atypical combinations of physical features that usually distinguish female from male.

Hi Felicity,

I'm Intersexed.

Intersexuality is a medical condition with many variants housed under that term.

For example a normal genetic males chromosome count equals XY .
A normal genetic female chromosome count equals XX.

I'm literally between two genders. My chromosome count equals XXXY.

I have internal female organs at various stages of development.
I have fallopian tube development as well as some ovary development.
The rather unique thing about my particular form of intersexuality is that I have functioning male genitalia as well.
My case is very rare concerning intersexuality.
Some of us even have a penis as well as a vagina or a combination of both.
There are many of us with various chromosomal variance.

You might have heard of the term Hermaphrodite used in the past.
This term is very offensive to the intersexed community and has been replaced by the term intersexuality.

I hope this helps you.

This explains it very well, from the Intersex Society of North America (ISNA):

What is intersex? (http://www.isna.org/faq/what_is_intersex)

How common is intersex? (http://www.isna.org/faq/frequency)

What's the difference between being transgender or transsexual and having an intersex condition? (http://www.isna.org/faq/transgender)

The truth is that the vast majority of people with intersex conditions identify as male or female rather than transgender or transsexual. Thus, where all people who identify as transgender or transsexual experience problems with their gender identity, only a small portion of intersex people experience these problems.

Hi,

Im one as well & we have our intersexed forums as well im on 3 & its just for those like us , & many of us are quite different, in how we look & think & how our hormones work or for some of us dont. it covers a whole spectrum of differences & theres no one size fits all.

One difference for myself is i know im accepted as a full female / woman yes all legal & all yet im just a so mixed up person who is both . i dont mean im mixed up as to not knowing what i am. i do thats for sure,

Its im both male & female yet nether, i dont need another name im just who i am from birth, part of my difference.
