I was watching the show Magic City on Starz (the one set in the early 1960's in Miami) the other day and I was admiring the lingerie of the time and my thought was "how fun would it have been to be a woman in that time"! With nice foundation garments, garter belts, slips, and stiletto pumps. So that got me thinking maybe the explanation to cross dressing is not scientific but spiritual. Maybe we were females in past lives and a part of that has stayed with us in our present lives. Although many of us started in our early years and usually by a sibling most of us did not run from it, we ran to it. I don't know there just have been some recent tragedy's in my life that has me believing a little more in the spirit world. Who knows maybe in our next life we will be females.

Well I’m an atheist and a realist so I don't need to say any more do I?

OMG, dear! Fun? FUN??

I'm sorry. But I was there. Those garments you are fantasizing about were not fun. They were uncomfortable always, and often painful. And listen dear, we HAD wear them. I can remember a clerk (we call them SA now) in a department store (remember them?) saying to me, "Well dear, you don't really need a girdle, but you wouldn't want anyone to know you didn't have one on."

Life was a bit different then. White gloves? Want to guess how hard it was to keep them clean? That meant you couldn't touch anything. Stockings were "full fashioned" then. That means they were not stretch. When you stood up they bagged and sagged around your knees. Seams had to be straight. Want to think about having to see behind yourself? Garter tabs slipped. There was no antiperspirant. Nice dresses had to be protected with uncomfortable plastic "dress shields".

A different time. Definitely not a "fun" time to be a woman. I would not go back there for love nor money, thank you very much. I am having absolutely too much fun right now.

You should check out the work of Edgar Cayce. One book in particular, called "On Reincarnation", will give you lots to think about. :)

Fun or not, many of us were raised seeing that and being told it was "naughty" so we see it as 8 year old boy porn :)

I want to believe that we have past lives. That the spirit does go on and on. Using Suzy's realist approach though means that eventually there would be a limit to the number of souls and it means that either we are using a lot more now than we did 100 years ago, or there is a shorter waiting period ( I will take the second option because I want to believe I was around during the 1940's and I have been informed that I was around during the late 1800's by two people who had regression therapy...both said I was female and involved in the uh...sex trade). Guess that makes me agnostic and a fantasist?

If we were females in a past life we must have screwed up something big time to deserve this! Lol.

Nah this is the Great spirit's way of showing us that we had it really good and next time don't complain. Or to show us what men are really thinking when we dated them :)

I do remember the clothing of the 1960's. Heck, that's what I got my CD-start wearing. Slips and girdles were especially enticing.

That said, I think I'll take the present to the past. The attitudes now present some small problems; back then they were really draconian. At least I'm not likely to be arrested for wearing Fem jeans and a top in public today. We can always adopt those older clothing styles though. Or perhaps go back even further to maybe the 1760's or 1860's with hoop skirts and corsets...

Naah; I'll stick with denim skirts and Fem jeans.

Enjoy life,

You 'orta try breathing in some of those restrictive girdles.
Girdles are designed to give the wearer an hourglass figure.
If you have an hourglass figure and wear one they are comfortable.
If you have more rounded proportions the girdle starts to work and they are NOT comfortable.

And if I don't learn the lesson I'm only a couple generations from becoming a one celled amoeba! Sigh.

I've had several myself, both male and female. There was a point and purpose to all of them. BTW, this is my final incarnation.:)

I think fantasizing over clothes of a bygone era is fine, so long as the clothes are made in modern materials.
Christ, the stuff I wore in the 70's I wouldn't let my cats sleep on, let alone stuff from the early 1900's.

Hooray, for soft silky items, it's what got me started. As for remembering previous lives, I have enough trouble remembering people from my last job. :)

As a seeker of of the world's alternative pathways I've had some experience with Past Life Regression. I've always been told that I'm an "Old Soul" and more than one person who believes in reincarnation has told I've lived a lot of lives but in my experience I've had difficulties in channeling these through any means of mediation, hypnosis or prayer. As much as I'd like to believe in past lives and certainly would like to think I experienced life on both sides of the gender line, I cannot say I have.

However, I believe that nothing can be counted out as a possibility and that absolute truth is impossible to know. So I'm open to the idea of past lives but prefer to think that I'm just being "me" in my present life in this present moment. "Me" just happens to be someone who blends the lines of my culture's idea of masculinity/femininity.

I often think that I must have been a woman in a past life as I find comfort and peace of mind when I dress!
And as my wife always says to me that she herself cannot put on a pair of stockings as fast as I can without putting a run in them!!
She really thinks I must have been a woman in my past.

I often have hazy memories (not really dreams, and not clear like normal memories) of being a woman during the Civil war. This is only one past life that I have vague memories of. I also have strong but hazy recollections of being shot in the chest...these were not dreams that I had. I know too much about all things femminine, and these are all things I was never taught, I just knew them. i.e.-how to apply makeup, how to put on stockings, hooking a bra one handed. etc. Why else would wearing clothes of the other gender would feel so right?
We always here about near death experiences that include a "tunnel" with a light at the end. My theory is that what they are seeing is the birth canal, and when they are brought back, the result is a stillbirth. I only hope that I can come back as a woman next time around...it is how I should be.

I lived thru the 60's, too! Unfortunately, I wasn't dressing yet. But, they had the BEST hallucinagenics ever back then! I can't tell u about the trips I went on, because they had nothing to do with gender bending or dressing!
They sure were bizarre , tho!

My suggestions is: Don't wait 'til u die to come back as a female! Allie may be rite! It may NOT happen!

Try some strong drugs instead! While you're still alive to enjoy the experience! Who knows? Maybe u can hallucinate that you've become the woman of your dreams!:battingeyelashes:

Of course, some of us here do that WITHOUT DRUGS! I certainly do!!

Going back to what Stephanie S said above, the fashions of the 60s are what started me CDing big time. I loved the tightness and confinement of certain clothes.

I remember listening to girls in HS and women in general. They (for the most part) loved wearing those clothes of the times. They didn't need much of an excuse to dress up. "Wanna come over for tea"? "Sure let me change my dress first".

Well I’m an atheist and a realist so I don't need to say any more do I?

This just about sums up all I have to say on the topic, too.

What I would say is this: nobody can categorically prove or disprove reincarnation as a philosophical theory, and I can understand the desire to believe in it. Claiming to be able to regress someone to a past life, on the other hand, is something of a very different nature. Much like mediums, psychics, etc, this is a claim that can, and has been, tested empirically. Curiosity is fine, but don't let yourself be exploited by those who claim to have 'abilities' that are frankly non-existent.

Lots of great conversation on this thread. The 60's show mentioned just go me thinking about the possibility that I may have been a female in an earlier time. The clothes reminded me of what my mother used to wear in the day. But why did I take my fascination with these items a step further than most and why did it manifest into who I am today. I can roll a stocking on my leg as good as anyone with no training whatsoever, etc. I seem to know more about being a female than I really should.
I have read the science and it does make some sense to me. However, I do believe it goes beyond science. I will just go along for the ride.

I'm a child of the 50's, when I started dressing, one of the first things that I got hooked on was a girdle, long line, boned. It was too big for me but I loved wearing it. I remember my sister running in after school, she just couldn't wait to get it off, while I waited to see if it would wind up in the hamper, where I could get to it. I remember my mother telling a story of going to town with her mother in law, just after is got married, and Grandma being upset that she would go to town on a hot summer day, without a slip. No I'll take dressing the way it is today, plenty of pretty mixed with a lot of comfort, and you can still get that girdle, for the days you want one, just like a garter belt instead of pantyhose, thong instead of full briefs, or skirt instead of Jeans (last one is for Karren).
Oh, and as far as reincarnation goes, and being a women in a past life. It must be nice to believe in an afterlife, or past life, but I only believe in this one.

Just remember Mikka, everything happens for a reason and there are no accidents per se. Even if re-incarnation is debatable and there is no hard empirical evidence to support it, hard facts and data are only as good as the people who utilize them and how we feel in our heart about who we are is undeniable to us anyway.:)
