After 16 mos of hrt, a bra has become a necessity. While not terribly bothersome generally, it sure fees good to take it off at the end of the day!

ARGH! Yes!!

My bra's are very utilitarian and built for comfort yet at the end of the day it HAS to come off!!
I've had a professional fitting not too long ago but 10 to 12 hours a day 7 days a week for over 5 years has caused me to be extremely happy when I can take it off and leave it off for the remainder of the day.

I'm an extreme case I suppose. I hate having anything on more than a shirt.

Have not experienced the bra, but I don't like anything on my legs and I love getting the shoes off even if I love putting them on for a long walk.

I suspect my ideal clothing article is going to end up being a nice apron so that I don't get my shirt messy like seems to always happen. I'm not expecting my female ward drobe to be overly expensive.

Been thinking of it, and considering how much I find myself outside, I won't need an extensive ward robe at all. Debating if I even NEED some girlie articles except on very rare occasions. Seriously not expecting to be able to do much of an outting more than once a year (Anime North being a popular option). And if I am on cosplay mode, the outfit will have decided perks. Everyone will just see a guy in a great outfit, being thought of as a guy will mean I can enjoy knowing the truth of the reason of why I am dressed in a female anime character outfit, but not needing to be forced to wear some things, as they will just make inaccurate assumptions ie a guy wouldn't want to wear a bra.

Sometimes the assumptions of those looking can be an advantage.

It's not going to be very long from now that I will need to wear a bra every day. My everyday ones will be utilitarian and white to go along with my Hanes men's briefs.

Added section: As you can tell I'm not a lingerie nut - underwear is something I wear only as necessary.

Try a different brand. One that is more comfortable. For me Victoria's Secret are wonderful!

There is NO such thing as a comfortable bra and all my bras are Victoria's Secret. Like Renee, the moment I walk in the front door the absolute FIRST thing I do is to rip that damn bra off. AND OMG! What heavenly relieve! And like Danni stated, I go bra-less every moment that I can get away with it. And even at times when I can't.

But it is oh so true. Before you need a bra, you can't want to wear one and fill it out. Then when you can fill it out, you hate having to wear one. And like Kaitlyn stated, if you have firm boobs that stick out like headlights then they look so much better.

I have been blessed in that I have the real McCoy at a full 36C without BA (just pure luck and family genetics). And I promise you they do not droop whatsoever. My GYN told me that I am really fortunate in that all my fellow sisters my age have breasts that keep hitting their knee caps as the effect of years of gravity has not effected my NEWLY developed set.

Bottom line, I think men should have to wear bras 24/7 while we revolt and go bra-less 24/7. Oh Wait! Am i still stuck in the 1960's?????????????????????????????????

One last thought, have you ever warn a bra during the heat of summer while working out in the yard or being very active? You have a waterfall of sweat flowing down your cleavage. Your bra becomes wet and your boobs become as hot as a hot potato just out of the oven or microwave. Now you know why women go bra-less.

Viva la Bra!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bull shit!

I must be the oddball, because I can't stand to have them out there bouncing unsupported, and I am only a 38B. I only wear two types of Bras though, coobie bra for around the house and the Ambrielle Ultimate upsize from JCPenny's. I am more comfortable in those than without!

I agree and I'm only a 34 A if that! Also mine are so sensitive that a dress or top rubbing on them all day would either hurt or have me in fits ; )

I'm all about coobies!

So while we are on the "boobs and bras" topic, i have lately started to experince the laser-beam focus that some people have on one's chest. It is amzing, albeit a bit uncomfortable ("hey - I'm up here"), how peoples eyes are immediately drawn there. My boobs are by no means large - less than C- but, when i wear a T shirt and no bra, they get noticed. Just another reson to keep the bra on

Yeah... it's funny... as a guy, I never got the "scan up and down" look when someone walks past you... but as a girl... it seems like all the time a guy will look at me, scan down to my feet, and then back up to my face. Or maybe it's just boobs, butt, boobs again :P

i am afraid i have to agree with aprilrain my nipples are so sensitive i cannot stand for a shirt to rub them it is almost painful so i wear a bra full time and i mean 24/7 yes even in the heat outdoors and doing yard work i have very large breast and they hurt if not supported they sag very very little i guess as 1 woman told me it is because you always wear a bra and have them trained i dont know i do know i love my bras and dont leave home without one on try riding a lawnmower over one and a half acres of uneven yard with large unsupported breast

That response is hardwired to ensure procreation. As is the tendency to prominently display that which attracts that attention.

I'm a CDer and even I consider a bra to be a necessary bother. I need it to look right, but it is definitely a relief when it comes off after a long day.

I sure hope you've taken it off long enough to wash it occasionally at least :heehee:

I disagree that there is no such thing as a comfortable bra. I've been blessed with 38DDs and virtually all of my bras are very comfortable (thank goodness for VS Biofits). IMHO if you're bra is uncomfortable you're just like the majority of women and wearing the wrong bra.

Playtex, blessed Playtex. By and large they do make the most comfortable bras.

Like most here I have dozens of bras. The number that are comfortable to wear all day actually doing things? ... very few .. and they all seem to be Playtex.

And when you get a 30+C day, yes the sweat runs down.

As part of transition 'plan' (if it can be called that), I've been deliberately doing things like wear a bra all day.
Just to get used to things and find out all the practicalities. All well and good glamming up now and then to got out.
Very different doing it every day.

Suddenly, boring cotton knickers seem like a real good idea and those boring looking bras feel real nice.

As for waist cinchers and the like, I love them .. but every day .. no chance.

Funny how the practicalities really start to come to the fore. Now if I can just master quick makeup .....

I think pantyhose and patterned tights can be cute, but wow are they uncomfortable. The weather has to be just right for me to even consider it.

I like practicality over pretty these days. Don't have to worry about my jeans catching on something and ripping ;)

Although I must say now that I have found some quality makeup and learned a few new techniques, I'm not so against it anymore. Heck, I put makeup on yesterday, forgot to take it off last night and with a few touch ups, it still looks good today! Even the waterline eyeliner is staying in place!

Well I don't hate bras AS MUCH anymore since I found some VS ones that are super comfortable. But the VS multi-way bra I have isn't nearly as comfy.

Two reasons I wear a bra...
One, I need the padding to have a decent shape. I'm not one of the lucky transitioners who got C-cups in 6 months...
Two, shirts rubbing on nipples all day just ain't all that comfy. It's been a while, so maybe I'm not that sensitive anymore, but the rubbing is QUITE uncomfortable.

I think for some of the more well endowed women, I think it helps with back support. I know a few big breasted women who hate how big their boobs are and one reason they wear bras is to help the weight distribution so it's easier on their back.

I don't have to wear a bra all the time but seat belts and nipples don't work well together. The shoulder belt in my car has a tendency to ride up a bit and, well, saws at my nipple sometimes. Yeowzers, I bellowed a rather un lady-like scream when that happened.

Audrey,
I have two answers for you: gravity and modesty. Any kind of moderately vigourous activity (that isnt prone!) is going to result in unpleasant and unwanted motion! And it doesmt tke much of a rack, either! Dont i know! Secondly, dont you remember middle school predicting cold front by some poor teenie bopper having nipple erections without a bra?

LOL -- Maybe this is the difference between CD and TS? Seriously for my little AA's, wearing a bra -- most of the time for me - is very comforting. Can't really explain that. The only issue I have is when the hooks in the back bug me when working out or sitting in a chair or car for an extended time. So maybe I need front-close bras?

Bree, my comment was obviously tongue in cheek. We CD's probably have little idea of what you all have gone through -- but admire the will and courage it must have taken to get where you are. Many of us may think about transitioning, but for whatever reasons don't proceed. Perhaps one answer to the CD - TS question comes from Joan Roughgarden's book Evolution's Rainbow -- trangenderism is indeed a rainbow (spectrum).

Amen Cathy! Being a full 36C going braless in public is definitely out of the question and as I work as a waitress, support pantyhose is just part of the uniform. I suppose back in the day I dreamed this would be a lot different but reality is so different than fantasy. There were days last summer in the sweltering heat I barely got the door shut after coming home from work before the skirt went up and the pantyhose came off, then the top and lose the bra! I do have to admit that soft cup bras are not as bad as underwires but as with most larger women I generally wear an underwire for the support.

there are a lot of factors, but in general the three most important are: your genetics, your age and your regime. Unfortunately, age is huge in this matter.

As for the original Q's, I have to wear a bra most days, gets very uncomfy if I do not. I don't hate them (yet), but I sure do get particular about the qualities of any given bra !! The most comfortable one I own is by Vicki's Secret, the next is one I bought in a mall in Bangkok... it is a crap shoot !

there are a lot of factors, but in general the three most important are: your genetics, your age and your regime.

My statement was a bit tongue in cheek.......

I'm not a lingerie freak - I wear Hanes men's briefs. But I have reached the point where I need to wear a bra, especially when I am running! And the bras I wear are plain to go with the spirit of the underpants.

And yes, it feels wonderful to take off the bra at the end of a workday!

Year ago as I was in ur situation I was apprehensive about wearing summer exercise outfits . I was and still am 100 lbs over weight and not much in the boob area so my Gender Therapist suggested I wear a sports bra. I took her advise in different ways but for a few, its very comfortable even out in public as I wear off the shoulder tops. I also can add cheap silicone fillers to enhance what I got as I didn't have the lines I created in some bras. Also was able to cover the nipples that sports bras don't . As being small busted I did illusion the fact I was small busted into the realm of being swished instead LOL. As I did cycle a lot it created a small cleavage affect for the guys to stare at. Small moment for the guys to focus on , did enjoy the cheap attention, hehehe.

At the end of the day I didn't have the sores that under wire bras made and could wear it all day without pain. It also doubles as swim wear as I visited my daughter yesterday for dinner and a quick swim in the landlords pool. Yes road over about 10 miles on the bicycle and only had to take off my tunic as I always wear yup you got it " bike shorts" lol. Great under those short summer dresses. Also helps hide the bulge. Sports bra are also fashionable just to wear alone without a top but still a little over weight for that. They also have wide sides to help hide and contain the fat that droops over on the sides.

Fall will be hear soon and will have to readjust to those painful bras just to get the right symmetry but I have to fill out more to fit into my many outfits.

Being a bit humorous for a moment.
Look one day I'll have decent boobs. And when I do I know I am going to go through a phase of flaunting them.
Low cut, bra less the works .. for a while at least. I'll rub the nipples with novacane if I have to, to pull that off.

"Do you know what I have gone through to get these"? If I am going to go through the time effort and cost of getting them, you bet I will (at least as a phase) be showing them off.

"Hi I'm Lisa .. and what do you think of my boobs".

I remember a girl walking down the street and she had quite a set, with a tight tee shirt that said "Weapons of Mass Distraction".
To be fair, I might not quite go that far.

Edited to add: not sure what that smiiey at the top is, it doesn't appear when I edit the post ????

I actually feel more comfortable with the support of a bra. I'm a natural 38B/C. It's kind of embarrassing to walk around in male mode bouncing and sticking out. I run for exercise but only in the cold weather because this time of year would be very eye catching.

I find bras to be both good and bad lately. If I am going out, moving about or carrying stuff
I think I rather where bra on for support and a little protection. But when I am at home I do
like to get it off because I find that my breasts are that sore lately from the hormones that
the pressure building inside the bra makes the aching worse. I think it is time I though about
going up a new cup size. :)

When I drive or ride in a vehicle I really need to wear a bra so the bumps don't hurt my breasts. I also don't like to walk around publicly with my breasts bouncing about without a bra, I have discovered my underwire bra is the most comfortable - my breasts are not mashed down - but the projection is a bit much.

Right now I am a 40 B. I have a feeling that when it is all done my cup size will be anywhere from a C to a DD.

Just kind of curious, for those of you who can't wait to rip your bras offf, did you always feel that way since you began wearing them 24/7, or was it when your breasts reached a certain cup size? My HRT now has me approaching a solid B and I do not yet find it uncomfortable. Are you saying the C-D range changes everything? Thanks!

After 16 mos of hrt, a bra has become a necessity. While not terribly bothersome generally, it sure fees good to take it off at the end of the day!

Sounds like my wife....
The other night we were about to get ready for bed and she starts laughing. When I ask why she just says, " 'cause I can't wait to take off my bra and you can't wait to put yours on".

Just a matter of perspective....

I think it could have something to do with it. I was wearing size 14C bras, but decided to switch to a 16B about
2 months ago. Thinking that with the increase in chest size would mean a drop in 1 cup size. And it seemed OK
for a month or so, but now my breasts are hurting because they are getting to big for this size bra, so it looks
like I have to go up now to 16C for sure.

Also I have been on hormones now for 23 months and the pain hasn't got any better and it has been a lot more
prevalent over the past 2-3 months. So I am sure I am going through another rapid growth stage. Breast growth
can continue for 5 to 8 years from what I understand., But I do believe that most trans girls won't get very big
breasts without getting implants.

Personally I don't want big breasts because they are uncomfortable and need more support. Carrying that extra
weight also causes upper back issues if you have ever talked to other big breasted women. A full 16C is plenty for
me, so I am hoping I am going to stop growing about there. But who knows what will happen given my genetics? LOL

I am the husband of Ames.I had my boobs enlarged larged a couple of yrs ago. My wife after reading this post said it might be good to respond. Being a c cup requires me wearing a bra when I go outside especially to keep movement down and for comfort sake, after having to wear a surgical bra 24/7 for 8 else.I sort of got use to it. I think being fitted for one, while an odd experience first time is imperative to feeling hood about your bra. I don't think many put the time and effort to really get a well fitted one. Now as long as my mind is busy I really don't feel it at times if I'm not busy or my mind wonders it may pop in my head that hey I got boobs andwearing a bra depending where I am or how I notice can cause many different thoughts. But I can certainly relate to at the end of the taking it off does feel good! s.

Buy an "Ahh Bra". You can get good deals on ebay. My wife loves them even though she really needs better support for her large breasts. Sometimes she will wear two at once for the support.

Bottom line, I think men should have to wear bras 24/7 while we revolt and go bra-less 24/7.

Do you wear a bra to bed? In the shower?

I wear my Ahh Bras most of the time I'm awake. Not because I have to, but because I want to. Why? I don't know, I guess it's because I'm a crossdresser.

I have to admit most classical bras are torture devices in the long term. Especially on warm days when you could have gone topless while mowing the lawn. Oh, well, at least all the sweating keeps the lovehandles at bay. :-D
