I made an appointment at Eye Mart a couple days ago to get some much needed new glasses. Appointment was for 10 this morning (Sat.). So I get there early and browse the frames and I find a pair of guy frames right away. So then I start looking and trying on girl frames.

The place was busy and several women were browsing the same section. I paid them no never mind and kept on trying on frames. Some of them looked at me for a sec and then went on about their own bizness. I got called back to the exam room and got my eyes checked and went back to picking out frames.

When I finally settled on a pair I went up front and a younger girl about 25 or so comes to help me. I got the guy pair and asked if it came in a different color and she found they did but had to order them in. That was fine, Ill get them in a couple days. Then I asked about the specials and there were two. I opted for the buy one get one half off and got up to get the girl frames I chose. The girl looked at me as I headed to the women section of frames but didn't say anything although I could see she was a bit bewildered at first. She totaled up the order and then like a light went on she smiled and said "Well now you have a pair for whatever mood you wake up in." I laughed and said "That's right".

I asked if they could make some new lenses for my original glasses so I could just use those for work and she said no problem. It took about an hour to make the glasses and I had other stuff to do down the street so I left.

When I got back she looked up and smiled a knowing smile at me and told me another girl would be right out to fit them for me. The other girl was probably about 22 and she got out my regular glasses first. When I was trying them on she saw my eyebrows were plucked but didn't say anything. When she got my girl glasses she was very professional and went about her task. When we were done with the fitting she told me how nice they looked.

When I left, the first girl was smiling again and wished me a good day.
All in all it was a good experience and the staff were polite and professional. They both knew I was CD and I think they actually thought it was cool.
Gotta love this younger generation.

edited to add: I ended up saving $137 with the special so I went to J C Penny to buy a new outfit to go with the new glasses. I found a chenille sweater marked down from $30 to $14.99 and an additional $2.25 off for using my Pennys card. And I found a pleated seersucker skirt in the clearance section marked down from $36 to $8.77. Total price originally with tax was $70.62. I paid $23.02 total. It was a great day to be a girl!!!!

KatieZ...loved your story about the eyeglasses and shopping for them. I had a similar experience a few years ago and your story brought back memories of how much fun it was( and how nervous I was at first!)
Your statement about the younger generation rings true with me...I always seek out younger clerks or counter help when shopping or checking out. They just seem to be ok with us girls for the most part.
Its Always a great day to be a girl!

Isn't it wonderful when clerks, treat customers as they should. I had a problem with new safety glasses. I asked at Rx Optical how much my employer paid for frames. She told me all of us people were really cheap, and that we should be willing to pay something. I do for my street glasses, but I don't want to pay much over what is supplied. Because of her attitude I went to a different place. They were very nice.

As soon as my insurance lets me get another pair, I'm going to Lenscrafters to get some female glasses. I'm going to go dressed so I can see how they look on me. I'm sure I'll be making the sales clerk's day, but what the hell.
