View Full Version : Stopped by the Police

So I'm on my way back from my speech class. I'm taking the long way back so I can change on the way. As I cross a street, I see a police car intersect on my left. I think I'm first to the intersection so I stop and resume. Just then, I hear his lights and siren and I immediately pull over.
Now I had already removed my makeup but am dressed in pink T, bright green pedal pushers, white Keds, wearing a bra, pink glasses and a gold necklace. (Ok, I'm small so maybe he didn't notice the bra.) He explains who he is (really? the lights, the car, and the uniform wasn't enough?) and questions the quality of my stop (he said I rolled through at 10 mph) and "didn't you see I had the right of way"? I apologize and decide not to argue, saying I thought I had the right of way. He calls for my license and asks what I'm doing on that side of town. I'm figuring I'm gonna get a ticket for sure. He asks if the license is valid. (Excuse me?) I reply it is.
He gives me a lecture about being careful next time and sends me on my way, remembering to call me "sir". (Excuse me again?) Clearly I can forget about blending, the last year has all been a farce. I hardly need speech lessons if my appearance screams "sir". I am out a far amount of time.
I am relieved to have avoided a ticket but bummed about the "sir" reference. I'm also confused about the question about the license. At least I wasn't in the middle of a costume change.
Sometimes it seems I've made no progress at all.

I don't like cops. I have met some good cops... but I've seen too much to trust them outright.
He's just an a**.
You did take off your makeup to try and pass as a guy, so weren't you trying for a 'sir?'
Remember, the cop always has the right of way, even if he doesn't.
As long as I didn't get a ticket or a beating I wouldn't care if he called me "Fido."

I have been stopped twice, once in San Francisco by the California Highway patrol late at night while dressed en femme. I was given a very thorough and time consuming DUI test with questions and balancing and coordination tests. I passed. I really do not remember being called sir or ma'am, but at that moment my ego and sensitivity concerns were secondary to avoiding a ticket. Later that summer I was pulled over again late at night after leaving a Tbar hangout in Detroit, Michigan. That time I was given a quick DUI test and passed. As before, I was not concerned about proper pronouns. I also understand that the police tend to address one based on what the official document, Drivers License or Passport, says. Especially here in California with all our laws and regulations protecting ones right to present how they want, the police follow the laws. Both here and in Michigan all the police were very professional.
My recommendation is to worry less how the police address you, it really is not worth getting upset about.

Yup... cops can do no wrong. And when they do... like rape or kill someone... they get paid vacation.

I got pulled over by a cop after leaving the club for the night me and a friend were dressed as female fully ,had open container been drinking and maybe a roach or two laying in the ash tray... the cop gets my licence runs it (which i dount he ran it because im pretty sure my license was suspended at the time, he makes sure im not "too drunk to drive" asked me how long i've been living as a woman, i let him know about me and he asked how i get my body like I do, I say it all natural, but I guess the 3 months of HRT at the time may have helped a lil??? who knows... He ended up getting my phone number and kept asking me for pics of me in a thong ugh typical guy... i dont even wear thongs

Does your license show male or female? If male then the officer did nothing wrong. But if your license has "F" on it for sex, then he was out of line whether you had large breasts or "Itty Bitty Tittys!"

Stephanie,
I'm sure you've made progress! You were out and about crossdressed, not paniced by the sight of a police car, not even cowed into not crossing the road first, and you didn't pee in your panties nor die of a heart attack when he pulled you over! If that would be called "balls" on a guy, then Hon it means you've got big tits!
I go with Allie and Traci, if your driver's license has an "M" on it, then he was doing what he was supposed to do. Does it stab us in the heart when it happens? You bet! (Been there too so I know the feeling).
Maybe use the money a ticket could have cost to do a bit of retail therapy?
Hugs,
Persephone.

Change your documentation and go full time then complain about being called sir.

I couldn't agree with you more April.
Do you demand respect within the confines of your gender binary continuum or do you demand respect as someone who dresses part time?
Sorry kid the country can't quite handle the cross dressing yet.
If transitioned people still have a difficult time dealing with what all the big bad world has to offer then the non transitioned person should understand and deal with this reality as well.
If your showing a driver license with a male gender designator I would call you sir as well.
Does this cop know you?
Has he come over to your house and had lunch with you while discussing your need to dress?
Does he understand your " female " side?
Is he a licensed gender therapist as well as a police officer?
In this case your male drivers license photo and the " M " as your gender designator add up to " sir".
Julia

I know your sad because you think your presentation didn't cut muster but it had everything to do with your ID NOT your presentation. Besides you were in the middle of changing back to male mode, what do you expect? I'm sure your presentation is fine.

I was stopped by a NJ State Trooper just 2 weeks ago while driving down the Garden State Parkway, and yes I was driving as Nicole. After hearing his siren and seeing the flashing lights in my mirror I pulled over to the side of the road. The trooper approached my my car and addressed me as ma'am asking for my drivers license, registration and insurance card. Upon reviewing them he asked if I wanted to be addressed as ma'am or sir, to which I replied ma'am.
For the remainder of our 10 minute conversation he politely referred to me as ma'am and also used the words woman and lady in his lecture. He explained to me that he had stopped me for failure to pay a toll and further for attempting to avoid the toll by driving through the EasyPass express lanes.
I actually started laughing at this because each of my vehicles has an EasyPass transponder mounted on the windshield. As I pointed the unit out to him, and he verified its existence, he actually apologized to me and then asked me what my name was. He said it didn't seem right to call me by the name on my drivers license. I told him to call me Nicole and provided him with my cell phone number at his request.
It has been two weeks now and I am still waiting for a call from Trooper Jeff.... LOL..

I believe that Wisconsin is the same as Illinois. If you get a ticket, any kind, You
will have to take the whole driving test again at your next renewal.
I have a CDL, and that is a 100 question test. I try to remain a good Guy/Gurl.

Police-men/women just love to show off their power, lights and sirens. The lights and sirens exist, but they rather overdo things with the power that they profess to own. "Papers, licences, why are you going", "where" and soon it will be "what are you going to do when you get there" and "can yo prove it ?"
In passing have you ever noticed that there are no junior ranks in the "force" nowadays, just "officers"
Nicole, are you serious that it took him that time to be told that you had a pss and a mobile number ? What were you talking about and where ?

Something smells "fishy" in Denmark. Oh! You were not in Denmark, then it must have been you. Yes! I read every word and it came across to me as a dream or sexual fantasy. Are you sure your boyfriend was not the Cop? :D

I don't see why you were upset with the officer. He did things pretty much by the book, and could have easily cited. You gave him your male ID, right? After he confirmed that the license was valid (a reasonable thing to do, under the circumstances), doesn't it stand to reason that he'd call you sir?
