My prolactin levels are super high and my doctor has been wanting me to either get an MRI or go off HRT for a month to find out what the cause is. I've been delaying it so long with so many excuses but now that I've had my orchiectomy, I feel a little less scared of it. So I don't have t-blockers to go off of, just my estradiol injections. I did my last injection the Wednesday before last and today I've been noticing that my hormone levels are changing... oye... I usually start getting sad and will randomly cry when my estrogen level drops... and today I've been feeling it! This is going to be a fun couple weeks... interfering
At least I won't get that blasted testosterone!

I'm in a similar place (doc-worrying-about-tumors wise). My prolactin has gone up at a high rate and I will probably be undergoing an MRI...

The last time I had my bloodwork done, when he saw the high prolactin level, I was taking three meds and one umm... recreational med that all increased prolactin levels. Only taking two meds (estradiol and antidepressants) that boost prolactin since, and only one (antidepressants) right now preparing for getting my bloodwork done. I also haven't had any side effects of a prolactinoma... so hopefully everything will be fine.
I think if my prolactin levels are in the normal range without those meds interfering, that means I haven't developed a tumor and should be able to get back on HRT with no problem.

I do not know enough about all that stuff, but I want to give you big hugz and be positive and happy. I believe it will all work out for the best for you in the end. :)

I'm hoping it's an easy fix for you. The doctor will make you good as new! Best of luck with it Bree.:)

I hope everything works out for you. SSRIs have been known to raise serum prolactin, although in my case it was a pituitary tumor (Hyperprolactinemia). I had to stop estrogens for 3 months. It was -no- picnic, I can tell you that.
If your doctor wants to give you bromocryptine, ask Him / Her about Cabergoline (Dostinex) instead of Bromocryptine. It's a -lot- more expensive, but the side effects are much milder than bromocryptine. I've been on Dostinex for 4 months now. Serum prolactin is about 5 (it was 104 at one point because of the tumor)

Bree, do you also receive progesterone? I don't know the first thing about HRT, but my wife works for a health center that serves a lot of women - both pre and post menopausal, and the clinic tries very hard to strike a balance between estrogen and progesterone - for a variety of reasons...that I'm not qualfied to expound upon.

I've been laying off the progesterone because it causes me to get depressed... which I don't need on top of everything else. I have a month's worth of progesterone that I would LOVE to take to push the physical changes, but I've been holding back.
Right now, I have to get off of everything so I can get bloodwork done sans prolactin inducing medications to get a base reading of my prolactin levels...
EDIT: at least I don't have testosterone messing things up!!!
This is just temporary... I'll get back on HRT in a couple weeks. Just need to get my bloodwork done....

Hormones are such tricky little molecules. I presently take low doses of progesterone...and it seems the main effect is to make me sleepy.
Sorry to hear that progesterone was causing depressive moods for you...who needs that. But maybe in a few weeks things will level out again for you.
