I had a meeting with HR today. It went well!

Not planning to transition yet but I thought I should give HR a heads up, so I emailed one of the women there and asked if I could meet with her to discuss something confidential. I met with her today and I took a good work friend of mine with me as a witness - just incase.
It went really well. She was really happy for me and enthusiastic and said she didn't think Id have much problem transitioning here. And she has said she will keep it completely secret for now until Im ready. And that they haven't ever dealt with TG people before so they will need to look into it.

Way to go Melissa. I am glad to hear that the meeting turned out well. Its always good to hear the words "happy and enthusiastic" to describe anyone's reaction to us...but especially from someone in HR!

Good for you Melissa!

I know it's tough but letting your HR dept. know ahead of time about your transition is a good move in most cases, especially when it's received as well as yours has been. It's also great that you have a friend at work to support you, it really helps.

I came out to my coworkers a week and half ago but had come out to my boss and HR nearly 3 months before. It gives them time to make preparations and gives you time to prepare yourself and plan for your transition. I still have another 3 months before FFS and 6 weeks of recovery, after that I return to work and go full time as Pam.

You have taken a positive step forward in your transition and I assume in your transition plan.
