The factory I work at closes down for the week of the 4th of July every year and this year I made plans to try to spend most of the time enfemme. My wife had oral surgery scheduled for that Monday and I planned on getting dressed, dropping her off and then going to the mall across the street until she was done, the first time Vicky would ever be out. I remembered the post by AmberDay about going to the AF Museum and since I live about 10 minutes from there thought I would also do that.
So the week before shutdown my car was in the shop for repairs from an accident and I borrowed my Mom's car. The car was supposed to be done on Fri, so I stopped at her place and my son would pick me up and then go get my car. I got to my Mom's and called the body shop. My grill hadn't come in and the car wouldn't be ready until Monday. No sooner had I hung up when all hell broke loose outside. It got very dark and the wind was blowing big time with the trees bent almost 90 degrees. The power went out. My daughter called me to tell me our power was out also. It was all over in about 15 minutes except for a normal thunder storm. My Mom got her power back early the next morning but we didn't get ours back until 1:00 pm Monday. The idea of putting on a wig with the temp in the high 90's and similar humidity and no air conditioning didn't appeal to me so I lost 3 days of being enfemme. Then to top it off, because of the storm, the grill for my car didn't come in until late Monday so my car wasn't ready until Tuesday and I lost another day.
The one thing I was able to do was take the dog for a walk. I usually take her to this park that is an old quarry that was opened up. Early in the morning there usually aren't too many people there, so I dressed in woman's shorts and tank top and went about sunup every day.
Wednesday, the 4th, I was finally able to get dressed and sit around the house for most of the day until my daughter's boyfriend came over late in the afternoon. Thursday I had too many things to do so I knew before the week started that that was going to be a drab day.
So Friday became Vicky's going out day. I got up and took the dog for her walk, got home and showered and shaved. I took particular care with my makeup constantly asking my daughter if it looked ok. I thought my top might be a little too small but my daughter said it looked ok. Then I got in my car and went to the AF Museum. And it was absolutely PACKED! I don't think I've ever seen that many people there. Several school buses and kids in the 8-10 year old range running around. Lots of families. Wall to wall through the gift shop that I had to worm my way through. And apparently they had a lecture that people were lined up for past the Wright Brothers exhibit, probably at least 250 people long. Once I got to the exhibits it thinned out some but still a lot of people. I don't think any body realized I wasn't a woman. No one stared and I didn't hear any comments (although I do have a condition where if there's a lot of background noise everything just blends together as a constant hum and I have a hard time hearing any body unless they're right next to me, so if anybody did say anything I couldn't have heard it anyway). I spent about 3 hours there and absolutely enjoyed myself. I wasn't particularly nervous although I pretty much avoided eye contact with any one.
Sorry for the long post but I had to share. Even though things got off to a bad start, it turned out pretty good.
