In July 2003 I weighed 205 lbs and was a size 16. Yes, I had just bought my first size 16 womens suit and was very unhappy that I became a size 16 from a size 14. Then I tried to join the Air Force and they said I had to be 165 lbs. So that was my motivation to lose weight. At first, I didn't have any idea of how to lose weight because I've never dieted and lost weight before. The first thing that came to my mind was to bike to lose weight - because I once met a person who said he lost 30 lbs by biking. So I bought an $1100 Cannondale F600 mountain bike and tried biking. I did this for a month but I got sore legs from my mtn bike. Apparently a mtn bike is a slow and harder bike to pedal. So I next bought a $1512 Giant TCR Aero 2 road / triathlon bike. I then did 366.12 miles my first half year (July to December 2003) and watched what I ate and went down to 192.6 lbs. Not that many miles and only 12.4 lbs lost in 6 months. Then in 2004 I did one long bike ride of 30 miles and discovered that I lost significant weight from the ride. So I then developed a 37 and 54 mile bike path route that I used for workouts and I did a lot of those kinds of workouts. So in 2004 I went from 192.6 lbs to 159 lbs by biking 2080.88 miles. I did not “diet,” I mostly ate my favorite 380 calorie carrot cake and chocolate milk for breakfast and then anything for a good lunch and dinner. I sometimes would even indulge in high calorie pecan pie - my favorite! I did about 52 to 130 miles per week in 2004 and I lost from 0 to 2.6 lbs per week. Being Asian, my lunch and dinner meals usually were half a plate of rice with anything.
This year, 2005 I went from 162.6 lbs to as low as 139.2 lbs by biking 2472.4 miles as of August 23, 2005 (3038.9 miles as of Nov 16, 05). My biking season started in February with the goal of reaching 145 lbs. So I only gained 3.6 lbs during the winter which I did not exercise for 9 weeks and I occasionally overate! Yes I overate some because I went on a 1-month long vacation to the Philippines and so I wanted to try the food! So this overeating and low weight gain showed that I lost weight in the best way - but not dieting and by burning off all of the fat! Hence I have a good high metabolism. My "diet" was not complicated - I just ate my standard Nemos carrot cake breakfast with chocolate milk / protein powder, a good lunch and dinner, and even up to 340 calories of any snack or junk food sometimes. But I switched to only drinking diet sodas.

For those of you wanting to lose weight to get to that smaller dress size, I’d say biking would be the best form of exercise. People who run too much have been known to damage their knees, hips, or joints. And when you bike – you get a breeze that cools you down.
