Question: What is being a crossdresser like?
Answer: I suppose it’s a lot like going to a track day.

During the past Bad Annalogies I have covered a broad range of comparisons. This week I am driving into how crossdressing is like the great automotive experience of Track Days. Another bad analogy? Lets see how this logic tracks out.
The daily grind commute is rarely viewed upon with any excitement. You go light to light, bumper to bumper, rinse and repeat. To make the experience even more dreary most choose to complete this circle in the automotive equivalent of a beige toaster. No wonder crossdressers call this going out dressed in drab. When I say Camry or Accord what color comes to mind? None. There is a reason the color None is not in a Crayola box. Beige is the closest color to plainville as can be identified by modern spectrum.
So now imagine that dreary commute with a little bit of color or excitement. Transportation does start with trans. Maybe a sporty car, brighter paint, more than 150 hp, a manual transmission, or even more, a turbo. Things are starting to look up now, eh? Now lets go a step further. Lets move to a real muscle or sports car. You start looking forward to the commute. People start checking you out. You get a grin on your face and it carries over into to your day. What changed? Your outlook, your mood? It is still you behind the wheel, but much less dreary.
So now that you spiced your commute up a bit lets move things along to some more vehicular excitement. You are invited to attend a track day in your new or modified ride. Whether you go from Lancer to Evo or trade up big time to a GTR is up to you. When you arrive check out all the other automotive joy that attended. You get to talk and learn from them from everyone. You start seeing there are all kinds of styles and subsets in the car cultures. Much of this is like the CD/trans community and attending a conference or event.
When you come off the track you are buzzing and glowing with excitement, adrenaline, the biggest smile on your face in years (or ever). Your skills and confidence grow in leaps and bounds every time out and everyone tries to help each other. You get the sense of community and acceptance. Friendly competition. In the car world you soon learn of the saying "Pick two out of three - Fast, Reliable, Cheap. You can't have all 3". Similar is true in the CD world as well - "Pick two of three - Hot, Passable, Cheap". Obtaining all three would be like finding the Holy Grail.
Once you veer into the car world you learn that there are things you can modify on your car to make it look better, turn better, perform better. Building a good track car from a project car start with brakes and suspension then work on drive train. All show and no go, All go and no show, or show and go. There are many roads in the car world. Being good at crossdressing parallels this. Especially makeup. Good rubber is like a great pair of heels, getting the right size and style for either scenario is a skilled endeavor.
When crossdressing is presented in this analogy it makes one think twice about beige. Beige eventually bites back. Maybe trade in the toaster for a blender, even if only for a weekend or two.
