Flying from LAX to BOS and I had to go thru the full body scanner. After which I was instructed to wait until I go through a behind closed doors screening. It seems they were expecting a regular woman when they scanned me and so were surprised when the scanner revealed something going on in the crotch area. Anyway, two begloved TSA agents inspected me and once I explained I was transgender all was fine.
Normally I would have been pretty upset at wasting 10 minutes in security but it was strangely affirming to be read as female so convincingly (when i thought i was presenting as my id - male) that I had to explain the suspicious nature of my crotch.
Anyway, the TSA staff were absolute professionals and polite to me once I revealed the source of my irregularity.

That was my experience too on my first en femme flight from Oakland, CA to Las Vegas. I got the newly started full pat down when the metal stays/bones in my waist cincher set off the first metal detector I walked through. They explained everything and were more than professional. Then on the return trip a new TSA agent didn't know what to do when my driver's license picture did not resemble the person standing in front of her. A more seasoned (though he looked younger than the newbie) agent came over and cleared everything up. He then proceeded to walk with me to the area where you put your carry on and pocket stuff in trays to be Xrayed and asked me all kinds of questions on transitioning, which I was and am not doing. All in all, a very pleasant experience despite the pat down.

Good story. We TS and CDers gotta be old hat to most of 'em.
The scanners sure have improved. I went through the whole body machine a few weeks ago and got stopped and questioned about something in my slacks pocket. My pockets were empty. The scanner had picked up the spare plastic button the factory had sewn onto the end of the pocket. A quick hand scan and I was cleared.
I realized if they could note the out of place button they probably could see wether my panties were French or bikini cut, lace or solid, and that my sports bra had no shelf. And I really didn't care, and figured they didn't really care either. :)

So the scanners can sense what is in someone's underpants? Christ of christs!
OK I am glad i got to make this joke before anyone else but you should have said (after inspection), NO that is not a gun, I am just happy to see you". Or you could have said it was your pet python.
OK, can I now have my infraction for making the biggest "groaner" jokes ever?
Edit - "the suspicious nature of your crotch"
I am going to be laughing about that comment for the next 3 days :D

I have been through the scanner too a few times The only think that has ever happened is teh security officer has asked me to take off my heels and put them through the xray scanner. Maybe its the metal on the base of my stilleto's ??

I have had the same experience, but only once. And i fly en femme A LOT. Those scanners must be exquisitly sensitive, because i was never well endowed, and 18 mos of hrt hasnt changed that.......
