I just got this article (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/24/world/europe/serbia-becomes-a-hub-for-sex-change-surgery.html?_r=1&smid=fb-share) posted to me on Facebook and thought some of you might like to read it. SRS for $10,000? Now the question is what are the results like?

Interesting, it is good if there are more centers developing for GRS. More options and hopefully progress in technique.

FYI, the base price at Dr. Chettawut is not much more than that. He quotes in Thai Baht, so the actual price varies, but it is around $10,300 today ( just checked ). Of course there are other costs of travel and stay.

Let's just wait and see how many fly to Eastern Europe vs Southeast Asia over the next couple of years. There is a lot more going on in Serbia than that article wants you to believe between religious and political groups which tend to be addressed by violence.

Traci: As far as I know Yugoslavia is not one country anymore so the tensions between ethnic and religious groups are minimal.

*Shrugs*

Saran is at $8k and he was mentioned in a thread on here a few days ago, although it might be worth the extra $2.3k with Chet to not need to suffer the genital electrolysis. Not like I'm going under the knife until this time next year at the earliest.

For some reason I have the "let's wait and see" mind set on Serbia.

Where did you get the information from that Dr Saran requires genital electrolysis? Because that is not right.
Because I know others who have already had SRS with him and told me that he removes the hair folicles during
surgery.

I agree and certainly won't ever be going there any time soon. No thank you.

I won't be going there either ... but that is because I've already been fixed ;)

While I have to admit my initial reaction was that Serbia sounded nuts for such surgery, it is good to remember that not that many years ago most folks reaction to mentioning Thailand was also pretty negative.

I agree, I won't be going there for the same reason. However, I would need a whole lot more information before considering it.

I checked the page here, but I'm liable to have misread. I hope I misread, anyways. http://www.doctorsaran.com/procedure.php?cat_id=3&procedure_id=23#preparation

By the way, seriously looking forward to reviews of his work from those of you who have surgeries with him coming up.

You certainly misread that out of context because the passage relating to Hair removal is actually in
the 'Surgical Procedure' section under 'Facts at a Glance'. not under Pre-Operatative Care Preparation.

I heard from a penguin that the newly completed US station in Antarctica has a state-of-the-art surgical center. SRS is so easy and swift in Antarctica. Just go outside of the US Station, pull your zipper down and pull it out. Within an instant, it turns into an ice-cycle and breaks off when trying to put it back in your pants. voilĂ* no more penis problem!

That's a chilling thought.

I think it's cool just knowing that SRS is getting more widespread and getting covered in the NY Times. And with the story of a FTM guy.

But I still question traveling for discount SRS much the same way I question the coupons for discount laser eye surgery I see. I'll need to talk to a lot of satisfied customers before I go for that.
