During this year we actually had to vote on this statement below. Oh, how I hate the aspect that people think if you crossdress in this state it does make you gay.
I have run into so many people in my life that have said,"You must be gay, you crossdress."
Maine is way behind the times and will be for a long time. There are more open people down around Portland and at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor but most of the state is one sided.
I have a gay friend at work and he states,"I can't see why men would want to crossdress if they are not gay. Yeah, right, they get some kind of thrill out of it."

The question reads: "Do you want to reject the new law that would protect people from discrimination in employment, housing, education, public accommodations and credit based on their sexual orientation?"

Now my thoughts are this....with a statement like this does this mean if I came into work in any female clothing would I be fired?
Since when have we become so one sided that we let the govornment
control everything we say and do?
Does the word Communism ring a bell?

Thanks, I just need to vent..............:D

By the way I voted no and if I could have voted again I would have voted no.

I've never considered crossdressing in any way related to my sexual orientation. I'm a straight heterosexual either way, whether I crossdress or not. Just a thought.

Intresting how the Repudlican party mantra is "Get government off the back of the people" but it is the Republican party that want to pass laws and constitutional amendments that take away personal freedom add more government control to our personal lives.

I just don't get these people.

Roberta,
Thats because you are not like them! They only want to get off the back of people like themselves. And make all us non conformers conform to thier Ideal society. We are fighting a war over seas to spread freedom and liberty, and democracy, while losing the same thing at home. Wow, this thread is gonna get off topic.

JMO2,
Yes you could be fired if the laws are written that way. Basically this country is gonna swing a hard right for a while, and probably loose some of the protections the hard left swing has fought for and won over the past decades. While it is very upseting, thats only because we feel like we are the ones being attacked. When the Others who are a little more mainstream in the current atmospheres' idealology start to get attacked for thier views, beliefs and lifestyles, the swing left will occur again. I just hope a whole bunch of people don't have to suffer in the mean time.

Why can't we all just get along?????

I'm glad i live in the UK, a question liked that could not be asked of the general population and if it did the Sex Discrimination Board and the European court of human rights would have a field day.
I don't know how any administration could allow this discrimination against part of it's electorate, just isn't democracy to me.
Thats my 2 cents worth, oh and BTW i had a dictionary for breakfast this morning.;) :D

I find the question is made for confusing people... it doesn´t ask if you want accept or reject...it only ask if you want to reject...pure Machiavelism, but it would be worse, it would be asking: "don´t you want to accept the law..."
It must be somethig like "Do you want this law to be accepted",never rejected...maybe I´m digressing, but I´ve study logics in the university, and I find it somehow absurd reduction, some kind of negative plus negative equal to positive...

sorry if I don´t express it very well, its a technical language/logical question and I don´t have the english expresion tools for the matter...

I just don't get these people. That's been a laugh to me for many a year.

Who is it who's responsible for laws against gay sex, drug use, prostitution, gambling and other activities that cause no harm to anyone else, and that are hence, no one else's business?

Why, the 'get the govt off our backs' crowd, that's who... "We don't want the government telling us what we can or cannot do... but jailing other people is fine, since they want to do things that we don't approve of! And of course, we're right!"
