Well, I’ve finally done it. I’ve finally told someone close to me about Angel’s crossdressing and my participation in it.
My half sister, Heather, is 22 years old and I am 36. I have been like a mother to her all her life. A few days ago she moved across the country to Atlanta, Georgia – 2,500 miles away from me. In the weeks leading up to her departure, Heather and I had some very deep, intimate conversations about life, love, and our innermost thoughts. Angel had told me that I could tell my sister about his crossdressing whenever the time seemed right. Heather is a very tolerant, open-minded person, and I was fairly sure she would take the news in stride. She attended her high school prom with her gay male best friend, so alternative lifestyles don’t phase her a bit. On the day she left for Atlanta, the opportunity I had been waiting for finally arose.
Prior to my big revelation, I had the opportunity to lay some groundwork and gauge her reaction. My sister happened to be visiting me when I received a letter from a young CD friend who lives in Los Angeles. “Jessica” had included with the letter a photo of herself en femme – and Heather saw me open it. She asked me who the girl in the photo was, and I replied, “Would you believe it’s a boy?” This led to a brief discussion about boys who like dressing up as girls, and my sister seemed very intrigued. But I still chose not to divulge any information about Angel and me, until……
A few days later, Heather surprised me by bringing up the subject of crossdressing again. Apparently, she was so interested in what I had told her, that she decided to ask her ex-boyfriend, her current boyfriend, and pretty much every guy she knows, whether they had ever worn women’s clothes. And what do you think? Every single one said, “Well actually….” It turned out that her ex had let a girl dress him up once “just for fun,” her boyfriend had worn panties before “only in the bedroom,” and her other friends sheepishly admitted that that they had also played dress-up at some point in their lives. I could see what was coming next, long before it came. She got to the end of her tale and then asked me, “So, have you ever dressed a guy up in girls’ clothes?” I cleared my throat, took a deep breath, and said, “Well actually…...”
And I told her everything! I asked if she had ever noticed that Angel paints his toenails and wears earrings. She said yes, she had. Well, I said, he sometimes dresses completely as a woman. “He does?” she asked, one eyebrow raised. “Yeah,” I said, “it’s fun. We even go out together with him dressed up.” She seemed amazed by this, so I continued, “Lots of straight men like to dress up as women. Most of them start doing it when they’re very young, like five or six years old. They are more in touch with their feminine side than regular guys are, and they enjoy expressing it. I know a lot of crossdressers, and they’re all really sweet.”
“Do you like it?” she wanted to know. “Yeah,” I said, “I’ve been into it for years.” I asked her if she remembered my ex-boyfriend. “He was a crossdresser too,” I explained. “Wow,” she said, “That’s so cool!” She thought it was cool! Woo hoo! I asked her if she wanted to see some pictures of Angel as a woman. She did. So we went to the computer and I showed her a few photos of me with Angel en femme, at a club and at a Tri-Ess meeting. “Gosh, he looks different,” she exclaimed. “He looks so much better with hair!”
I had always wondered what it would be like to share this part of our lives with someone from outside the TG community….and now I know. It was a terrific feeling. And the best part is, the next time my sister asks me what I will be doing at the weekend, I won’t have to say, “Oh, erm, nothing much.”
