Hi Girls,

Bottled my shopping trip today. Got dressed and did make up as I usually do on a Sunday, looked in the mirror, thought I looked ok and I felt great, escaped the house, drove to the shopping centre, parked up but just couldn't get out of the car. Still have this nagging doubt in my mind that I know im a guy in a skirt, so everyone else will clock me straight away. I will do this one day soon but im just not ready at the moment. I have come such a long way recently and Im getting carried along on this runaway train and I just don't know when its going to stop at the moment. My life has changed and improved so much recently and im just going to enjoy all this and not let this upset me.

Oh, Gemma, honey, you look great! You are missing a whole lot of fun! Just take a deep breath and act like you belong there! Man in a dress or woman in a dress, nobody cares! I have never run into an unkindness, ever! I know you can do it, if I can (58 yo, 6'4", 240 lbs.)!!:) You DO look good!!!

Baby steps, g'friend. Baby steps. No one here is going to look down on you for "bottling" it. I know I'm not going to. Heck, even your getting out to the parking lot is further than I have gone. I admire it. It's hard to get out of the car.

If you weren't so bloody far away, Gemma, I would tell you to come over here and we'll go out shopping together! I think that's what you need, some encouragement and support from someone who understands your situation.

Hi Gemma

You have to go on the assumption that you are going to be made, just don't let it bother you. None of us who do go out can pass to everybody all the time, it's just not possible. I really used to worry about it a lot, but after a few times I got over it. The worse that has ever happened to me is having a teen-age girl giggle at me, and I could really care less.

You are missing out on so much by denying yourself the freedom of going out as yourself. Don't be upset when you do get a double look or weird stare because it will happen. In fact, I was made the other day while shopping for clothes, but the kind lady actually complimented me on my make-up, so that really made my day. Go out and have some fun.

Take it easy, cars are not traps to be fought out of and the car park can be big enough to walk around.

You talked of runaway trains, well Gemma, one just never wants to get off one. Not really when it is fun.
