I am considering today as my date of birth. I started hrt at 7:30 this morning. I reallydidn't expect it to happen this fast. I went to th dr yesterday for my semi-annual review of bloodwork. I mentioned that I have been having some prostate problems along with struggling with my transgender status. I have been going to this dr for about 4 years and have always gone underdressed and clean shaven. Yesterday I decided to go fully dressed. When she came into the room I told her I had had a breakthrough and had admitted to myself that I am transgendered. We had a long discussion about how far I want to go with it and I left with prescriptions for finasteride and progesterone. I am going back in 6 weeks for a checkup and she said we will probably add spiro also.
I did forget to ask about how long it would take to see any change. Can anyone tell my when I might begin to feel the effects?

Well, I think the answer is "it depends". You might see some changes in skin fairly quickly but I don't know if you'll see anything substantial in less than six weeks. Again, however, each person is different.
I can't relate to finasteride and progesterone as I am on spiro and E.
Good luck!

I think you already are feeling the effects today, lol. From what you express in your post, feeling of being newly born is immense, and freedom of allowing to experience true YOU is priceless!

Great for you! Usually you should start to notice the changes around 3 to 6 months. So much depends upon your individual genetic makeup. Oh, Happy Birthday! ;)

Finasteride and progesterone is an odd combination. Do you have other health issues preventing the more standard regimen of estradiol and spironolactone?

The finesteride is for an enlarged prostate. I am going back to see her in about 6 weeks and depending on how I feel, she will probably put me on spironolactone. I'm not familiar with estradiol so I will discuss it with her.

So where is the Estadiol? My changes started within the first three months.

The most important hormone in transition is Oestrogen. So yes, where is the estradiol?

Finestaride, primarily to shrink prostate, but also lower T, is a slow acting drug that takes several months to shrink a prostate, so I might think (not sure here) it is a long term lowering of T also. I think maybe she has started you very slowly just to get you going. Congratulations on your birthday. Please update us on your progress.
