I've been kidding here for several years that about the only place in the city that I have not gone to in obvious female clothes, is my dentist.

Well, no more: for today's minor dental surgery, I had on a long skirt. The only person in the office who looked even a little surprised was the head dental technician, as this is the first time she's laid eyes on me in 6 years.

It was a non-event. For everyone.

This last barrier fell, and by the time it did, it was no longer of importance. I am integrated enough into city society just the way I am that I have become mostly unremarkable. (To the adults, anyhow.)

If this hadn't been the last milestone, the reaction would have spoke volumes about any future barriers. And what was said is that you have already shown them who you are. So by itself, it shows there are no more milestones.

Sandra, congratulations for making this milestone a relative non-event, at least for the public involved. It really illustrates that you are doing a wonderful job in presenting yourself in a manner that is totally acceptable and likeable. You are to be congratulated for this as it represents the way to do it.

Enjoy,

Barbara

Yes, Barbara has said the "milestone" was a relative non-event. One more experience to let the world know that we are "unremarkable" -- we are real people and not at all like the stereotypes many have of us. My dentist is female, as is her entire staff, and I go there dressed whenever I can. Sure makes the dentist's chair more enjoyable... Its ok to be unremarkable....which literally means " without remark" I suppose. I feel the same way. If I can go out - to the dry cleaner, the grocery, Starbucks, or my dog's vet en femme and no one says or reacts adversely, I'm happy.

Being out and about as you are, why would a trip to the dentist be any different? Most people are polite enough not to comment when they see something out of their ordinary. Only the D**k heads make an issue of it.
