Wow what a show. Are you brave enough to be vulnerable? Please share.

I remember being with a friend all dressed up en-fem to go to a meeting. She stopped at a grocery store to pick up something. I had never gone out in public before and was shaking in my heels. She said that I have to take that step sometime and now is as good a time as any. Surprisingly the trip in the store was uneventful and was extremely liberating. Now I have no problem with being out and having fun weather in drab or fem. Once I was in drab at Wal-Mart looking at bras, a SA came up to me and said point blank “that bra will not fit you” she was saying that with a snicker. I looked her right in the eyes and asked “what would you suggest for me” she walked away. What a since of power to be who you are instead of hiding.

I have used answers like that on a number of occasions.
From such situations I have successfully had three fittings after remarking, "If it will improve my figure I will buy it." or some similar replies.
The agressor turned into a helpful and curious friend on each occasion.
DON'T RATTLE MY CHAINS LADY, or you will get it! :)

Brené Brown has a really amazing TED talk as well. It made me cry.

I love her approach, thanks for posting.

Here's another great talk, "Listening to Shame": http://www.ted.com/talks/brene_brown_listening_to_shame.html

The meat of her talk is in the second half of the video. She also has great insight about the difference between male and female shame.

"If it will improve my figure I will buy it."
I'll have to remember that one, it is good. After all what SA doesn't want to make a sale?

Ameli and ReineD, Thanks for the Brené Brown on Ted lead. I'll have to watch it when I have time. I don't watch much T.V. and just turned it on when something she said caught my ear and I could relate. What a great message for all and expecially for those that are struggleing to come out.

Way to go Brianna!
Don't let some closed minded SA give you a hard time. You should have followed up with asking where are the ones that will fit you.

Hi Brianna,

In my experience, a British one! They don't do commission sales here really so it's just a job.
Sorry, had to throw that one in. :)
