I usually admire this cartoonist's work, but today's offer is disappointing. *sigh*

What do you think? Am I being too sensitive?

Yes. You're being a bit too sensitive. I really don't want to wear a dress to work. Were I actually female, then yes, I certainly would. But I'm not. I'll reserve my dressing for occasions other than the workplace. That's not to say we shouldn't dress, but life is full of places where sometimes things are appropriate when at other times they are not. I think the workplace is not usually a place where men should be wearing dresses. After all, you're at work. If you want to dress up, choose a venue where it is more appropriate, like a party, an outing of some kind, etc.

Note: this doesn't apply to those who are transitioning.

Hmmm, could be a lot worse, I guess.

Hey susandrea,

Remember that everyone has an opinion and in this cartoon that is a very mild one at that. I take this is more exposure to the masses.

The President, Rock stars or any famous type people use both good and bad exposure to their advantage.

Relax and take this very lightly. and smile you are special

Hi Susandria :)
I think perhaps you are.....The "victim" doesn't look particularly caught-out or even particularly ridiculous (as only a cartoonist could have made him). Also there is a complete lack of interest amongst the rest of the characters. Of its genre, this is almost matter-of-fact and humourless. IMHO

This cartoon doesnt seem to have a direct link to crossdressing.

It a word play on "Dress" code. ie the guy thought that dress code meant wearing a dress.

Quite frankly, I think we have bigger fish to fry than one cartoonist's mediocre attempt at humor. In the grand scheme of things, this is no big deal, IMO.

I laughed my ### off at it. Too funny.....yes you are a bit sensitive. I have found great humor in crossdressing, as long as it isn't mean spirited. Hope I can always laugh at myself.

The cartoon doesn't bother me because it is stating where society is regarding crossdressing. It does bother me that society hasn't advanced as quickly as I think it should regarding crossdressing.

I agree that there are types of work that require proper dress and women have found this out during WWII. They refused to wear dresses or skirts while making bombs and amunition. It was ridiculous so they stopped. It was accepted.

I don't see what men are wearing has anything to do with office work for example, especially when they are not dealing with the public. The man in the cartoon seems to have a job where he works at a computer and doesn't deal with the public face to face, so what difference does it make. I would have at least tried to look a lot more feminine though rather than just a man in a dress, as in the cartoon.

Well, society hasn't got that far yet.

But personally I thought it was kinda funny.

It certainly does not seem to be mean spirited.

I think that cartoon is great! I might have to make a copy of it, in fact.

Anything that takes gender issues out of the closet and into the mainstream is ok with me; besides, look at the faces--nobody really cares! That's the best part!

I'm glad to see your answers. I exaggerated my reaction, wondering if it might sway the overall opinion.

Being able to keep a sense of humor is very important. Thanks for your responses. :D

I think it's pretty funny. If we can't laugh at ourselves once in a while we're doomed.

You need a sense of humor to be a CD'er, does anyone remember their 1st attempt at putting makeup on.
Don't think the cartoonist meant it to be offensive.:)

Totally, that dress is out of place in the workplace. A skirt suit or pant suit is generally considered to be more professional. Or at least a button shirt and a plain skirt or pair of slacks. Maybe a sweater?

I think a dress is OK in the workplace. However, the one depicted is sleeveless and a little too low cut to be professional. Also, it looks like his slip is showing. The shoes don't go very well either. This guy needs a serious makeover.

You have to keep your sense of humor about crossdressing. Some people tend to take all this way to seriously....

I think it's sad, very sad. The poor fellow looks about as bad as I did my first time out. What I can't figure out is, why is his coffee cub so BIG?

It's OK susandrea :hugs:

Maybe you're just feeling in one of those "it's not fair moods" I've had those before. All I can say is that I agree with the others it's just a joke, don't worry about it.

Btw Bridget....I loved your response...very funny :D

Hey, I thought that it was a very funny cartoon, :lol2: laughed my head off!!! It's sort of mild mannered in rendering, (content) because the guy in the housedress just seems to just meander down the corridor like it's the most natural thing to do.:p

As a cartoonist myself I think this toon is priceless!!!!!!

Yar. Wiley is a liberal, goodhearted individual with a strong social conscience, right up there with Tom Toles. Neither one would ever knock a member of a minority group.
