Hi girls,
Am I alone in wanting to own a weddingdress with lots of lace or organza, because I think it´s the most feminine piece of clothing to wear?
Just curious about your reactions.
Cheers,

I have read many , many stories on here relating to wedding dresses.
My wife and I have shopped many thrift stores and have seen quite a few of them. One in particular caught our eye. It was beautiful. Neither of us believed that it was on sale for only $12.99. (yes only $12.99).
we thought there might be something wrong with it, and upon a closer look
found it to be in perfect condition.
My wife said to go ahead and buy it, BUT, me being in a sensible mood said
that I would never wear it, except mabey one time. We did not purchase it,
however we have seen a lot of them for great low prices here in Vegas.
Your never alone on this forum.

Understand; my wife is very accepting and even buys me clothes for a surprize here and there :twirl: . I asked if we ever get married again, could I wear the dress and she could go casual. I got the look of "How stupid ara you" and no response :kickbutt: . I was serious. I do look in the catalog's and such for fun, they really are pretty dresses.

I had one. I bought it a long time ago. It was very lovely, but... I couldn't wear it anywhere. When I bought it, I wasn't going out yet en-femme. The shop owner and ladies who worked there was very nice. They helped me pick a number of different styles. One picked a few more styles that she thought would look good on me. They helped me when I went to try them on. While trying them on, two twentyish ladies were shopping in the store and saw me in the dress. They both said it looked good on me. Overall, it was a good experience. If this is something that you want to do, go ahead and do it. Call a few shops, explain what it is that you want, and gauge their reaction. If they welcome you, go.
Warm regards,
Christina Nicole

Count me in on the Wedding dress or brides maid dress idea.
I have talked it over with my Wife several times. She knows I'd love to go out and try on some dresses and to wear one sometime. We know several consignment shops that sell Bridal Gowns etc. Also Owning a bridal I'd find several uses for it. One would be several times a year to fancy Fetish type TriEss meetings where everyone dresses up en femme. Insted of a Maids uniform. LOL!I'd wear it for those. Also I'd love to wear it on Halloween parties. Oh my, many many times I'd a worn a bridal gown instead of my other clothes. Also a Brides maids dress, wow I can't forget that Idea. I'd love to be a Brides maid once in my life, or more. LOLOL

Yeah, I'd LOVE to have one, but it's just not practical for me. A wedding dress would be extremely hard...no, make that "impossible"...to hide, and I'm sure it would take an enormous amount of time and effort even to put it on. Then what?
That said, I think that wedding gowns are wonderful, and I'd love the chance to wear one for a while. And pictures. Did I mention pictures? If anyone is really interested in seeing some really lovely wedding gowns (and a whole lot of other gowns as well), I would suggest you check out Bunny's Clothes Horse here (http://bunnysoft.ca/Bs-clothes/). And although Bunny doesn't seem to have this one on her site, my favorite one I've seen to date is this one:

While I don't have a thing for wedding dresses specifically, I do love dresses that are ultra-feminine. I always wanted to wear a prom dress - I need some place fancy to go to where I can "express myself".

Always been one of my most favs as well. Never seen it on sale though.
I bought a wedding dress some years back that I finally wore this halloween.
My wife has also let me wear hers for some pictures a while back.
Only $12.99 for a wedding dress in Vegas eh. Almost makes going there worth while.

I've bought a number of wedding gowns, first from thrifts, which were mostly odds and ends sort of assortments, then on ebay. The most I've paid on ebay is ,like, $50 (plus shipping). I look for gowns that are poorly displayed, since they tend to go unbid, and often can be gotten cheaply. Some turn out to be really nice gowns, others not so hot... But size can be a bit of a problem, so if the description doesn't give measurements, I request them from the seller.
Here's one I bought on ebay. It was displayed hanging shapelessly on the back of a door. It was a bit snug, so I had it altered by a seamstress to whom I'd confided I was CD. The alteration cost more than the gown, but it's a perfect fit now.

I have two wedding dresses, both bought from the same shop (gotta love the salvos) the first one unfortunatly doesn't fit me, but i just had to have it as it was only like $15.
My second one fits perfectly, like it was made for me actually. It has pink crystals sewn into it around the neck, and had matching shoes. the dress is a size 18 but more like a 14 and the shoes are a perfect 8.
That one cost me $48 and when i went to pay for it the guy asked, "is it for you?" to witch my answer was "uhm, yeah" If only they knew the truth.

I also love wedding dresses, and, like most posters here, I find them impracticable because of their limitations. However, I decided to make some dresses in wedding dress styles, but in evening wear fabrics, er --- and -- a fetish one ---

There have been so many times when I have been browsing through the local vinnies and melted at the sight of an unloved wedding gown just begging to be taken home. +? Explanation - you call them thrift stores - we call them "op-shops" here and the most common ones being run by St Vincent dePauls - hence the nickname "vinnies". The most exciting thing about this thread is that there are actually girls her talking about sewing. About time!
I seem to be forever sewing, but always the wrong stuff. Curtains, furnishings, kids clothes etc etc. But never seem to get around to the dresses that I've always wanted:o . Love your work Jackie!!!

Hi everyone,
I think like many crossdressers, wearing a wedding dress was like finding the holy grail. I too had the fantasy and one Halloween, I was able to make the fantasy a reality. My then-wife and I actually went to a bridal store and asked to see what clearance dresses they might have for me to buy. They were beside themselves, apparantly no man had ever been in there to try on and buy a dress, they loved it. So did I. I did buy a dress, wore it both days on the weekend for Halloween and went clubbing in it as well. The reaction I got was worth every penny spent on the dress. Alas, like most wedding dresses however, it has not been worn since, they are afterall, rather impractical.
I do think everyone should experience it once however, if you so desire.

Would definietely LOVE to wear one. But, like many have said, how often would I wear it. Even at home, I feel a little silly in my evening gown. But it's nice to know it's there.

I bought this gown from ebay for $165, but it turned out to be a bit small - it's a size 8 when I should have gotten a size 12. I guess I should get it altered but I don't know how much that would cost. I might be too embarrassed to go to a seamstress.
The pics of my gown are in this thread.

i managed to get this beautiful gown from e-bay for £120. It was originally priced at £1,500 and only worn once.
I cant tell you how wonderful it feels to have it on, (though it does take a while to get it on!)
I especilly like the noise it makes when i move around.

Does anyone know if wedding gowns generally tend to run on the large or small side? Or do you think it varies depending upon the brand? I'd just like to know in case I happen upon one while shopping. The many posts seem to paint thrift stores as the vendor of choice.
Thanks!

Wedding gowns, like all formal wear, tend to run small. I normally wear a 8 to 10, but in formals I wear 12-14. David's is a decent place for a gown. They sell knock-offs that they have made for them in China. They sell off-the-rack, so you can try it, buy it, and take it home. The do have alteration service, too. Some Macy's also have a bridal salon, they carry a good label. I've had good experiences there too.
A regular bridal salon, however, is where you go for the exquisite and detailed gowns. You'll also get the "full experience". All are recommended.
Note that formals can be strapless, have thin straps, halter, etc. They often look terrible with a regular bra. Some shops will give you a foundation garment to wear while you try on gowns. If your forms aren't attachable, this could be a problem. Also, many shops have someone to help you into and out of the gowns. This is absolutely necessary when you're in a full crinoline. But if you're shy, that could be a problem too. David's offers some help, but not a lot of help. That means you're on your own when trying on. Good if you are shy, but a real struggle to get into some dresses.
Usually when you are in a gown, they put you in a pretty public area and let you see yourself surrounded by mirrors. Often you'll also get appropriate shoes, too. They'll usually show you a selection of tiaras and veils so you can see the complete look.
Have fun.
Warm regards,
Christina Nicole

Ladies,
Wedding dresses run small by 2-4 sizes. I bought one off of ebay and it was a little small so I had to start running just to fit into it. 2 months and 20 lbs later, I fit into it and it felt so incredible! I only wear it on special occasions (duh!) because it is so big and takes a long time to put on. Ahhh! Anticipation!

Hi All,
I bought the dress in the attached pics at the Goodwill last year. I'm not a huge wedding dress fan though I wouldn't mind a nice long satin and lace one if it fit me and came cheap enough. Bridesmaid and formal dresses that are a just as feminine but a bit more understated are more my style though. Anyway, I bought this one for around $5 and it looks a homemade informal wedding dress to me. It fits although I have to say this is one of the few femme garments I have that I've had buyer's remorse with - it just is a little too old fashioned-looking for me. Top pic shows the lace around the stand-up mandarin collar. I'd have preferred a sweetheart neckline or something else a little less constricting and more comfortable.
Best,
Gunda

Can I add a little regarding the sizing of wedding gowns?. In order that I might be more successful in making my dresses, I purchased a PC program from CADTERNS clothing company of Vancouver Canada. I can now just enter measurements into my PC and the program will print out on my A4 printer a full size sloper (pattern) in those sizes.
When I pad myself (bra fillers) and put those measurements into the program, ladies section, I get a perfect fitting female style sloper.
The program will print out 3 fittings; one is for accurate fit, which is without any movement allowances. I suspect this is too close for bridal wear. The second is for close fit, which is with 1 inch movement allowance. This one, I believe, would be used for bridal wear. The third is an easy fit, which has regular movement allowances -usually 2 inches. This is the fitting I use when making my dresses.
At the moment I am making what I call my golden crinoline. I am making this dress in the traditional way with all interlinings and linings giving the shape and good "body". This dress will be really comfortable to wear, since, although being a feminine style garment, it is made to fit my male padded form.
I really do feel sad when some girls buy one of these gorgeous dresses, only to find that they just dont fit. I am aware that some lucky girls do manage to wear them but they are few and far between.
