View Full Version : Changes on HRT

Hi everyone. I have, hopefully, a silly question. I just started HRT on September 12th. I am already surprised by some of the changes and growth in certain areas. Not sure if it is my self conciousness or not. What I am noticing is that my work pants are getting tighter around the waist and I am having to wear a looser shirt to hide my chest which is noticably larger, especially when laying on my side.

I was planning on a 12-18 month progression but now I wondering about this timeline. I have asked my Doctor if he feels the dosage is too aggresive but he feels it is not.

Has any one else noticed rapid changes with fat redistribution at the beginning, and if so, do these changes slow down as time progresses?

As we have said here many times before, HRT is a crap shoot. Some will have rapid changes and some will go forever before any sign of change in noticeable. It all depends upon your physical make up and genetics. Somehow I don't think you would notice much change in 13 days of HRT but any thing is possible.

Nobody reacts the same way. There is no way to influence the changes. You can start the process or stop it. Some people get tremendous changes from dosages that are way too low for others.

That said, why are the changes unwanted, or sudden? Did you not prepare the terrain for your transition? There is information missing in your post.

At this point in time, it is too early to tell if the changes you have noticed will have any effect on your timetable.

I completely get that individuals vary quite a bit in how they respond to hormones, but I find it very difficult to believe any true (glandular) breast growth would be noticeable in two weeks. What would be understandable, and account for both the chest and waistline, is packing on weight, edema, etc.

My work pants are also getting tighter around the waist and I'm presently not on HRT. It could be those donuts. Leanne

Like everyone else said, HRT is a crap shoot. But seriously? 2 weeks? It's all in your mind. Now that you've started HRT, you're actively looking for changes and there's a good chance you're making something out of nothing.

Or you've had 15 too many Big Macs this week :P

I started having breast development around the 11 day mark, which is apparently not that uncommon of a time frame (others have reported about the same). The development wasn't much by 2 weeks, but the area under the nipple was starting to thicken up (heading towards forming sort of a disc.)

No, not too many Big Macs..maybe 1 or 2 many beers or 3 or 4......

I think the majority of changes are in my head, though I do have enough fat to redistribute because of the above beer. And Stacy, I double checked the name tag in my uniform, def mine.....dang.

Two weeks?

You should have full breast development by now and on your way to curvier hips. I'm surprised at the slow development. Your lips are at least plumper right?

I love the sarcasm when I asked a serious question.

Actually, you said it was a silly question. You also described enough development to require a looser shirt. Finally, in post #11, you said "I think the majority of changes are in my head ..."

I think, to be fair, that she might have meant emotional changes.

I've been on quite a low dose for a month now and noticed absolutely nothing. Except perhaps I might be a bit calmer sometimes. Physically zilch, which is a bit disappointing but not actually surprising.
Be interesting to see my blood work next month.

And no need for any buckets yet.

It takes natal woman years to develop and we are at a disadvantage to them. I would not expect to see much in two weeks. The first thing I noticed was that I was no longer waking up with an erection. That was at about 2-3 weeks. It took me a good couple of months to notice even a slight change in breast development. The good news for you is that there is a pretty good chance that even if you sprout A cups in 4 weeks the growth will likely stop there. I've been on HRT for 21 months now and have seen breast tissue come and go. If I were you I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for C cups. It's posible but unlikely. Getting fatter in a bad way is a definite possibility though!

I wonder at assumptions about fat redistribution sometimes. I don't know what yours are, so I don't mean to imply anything about that.

Still, I think the term redistribution is unfortunate. Fat doesn't migrate. All fat redistribution really means is that you stop (or lessen) accumulating it one place and accumulate it somewhere else. You lose fat at the rate that you lose fat, period. If it's slow and difficult, then your "redistribution" would also likely be slow from a loss perspective.

Since going on HRT typically results in a slower metabolism (primarily from lowering T) as well as changes the pattern of fat accumulation, the nearer term result often seems to be net gain as one accumulates additional fat in new areas but is slow to lose the fat in the old areas. If you're lucky, the loss in the "male" areas, such as the middle, may eventually leave you where you originally were, weight wise, all things being equal - but with a different habitus. And, of course, if you're unlucky, you may simply keep the old fatty areas as well as put fat on in some new areas!
