View Full Version : Not seeing any change

I have only been on hrt a month but I haven't seen any evidence of change at all. When I talked to my Dr. She suggested going slow. She put me on finesteride for an enlarged prostrate and medroxyprogesterone. Is this enough medroxyprogesterone to do any good? I am going back in about 3 weeks for a follow up and she may add spironolactone then. I am also thinking of asking about estradiol too. I know that at age 64 change will be slow. Any suggestions?

Progestins are optional Estradiol is required. If you want any changes at all you NEED estradiol! You will probably never see any changes accept those brought on by low T with the cocktail she has you on. Anyway even if you were on estrogen a month isn't really long enough to see any changes anyway. Dosages only matter in so far as a certain dose is required to get ones blood levels of E and T to be in the right places (low T mid range E) I don't understand these docs. who "want to take it slow" HRT is a painfully slow process even with ones blood levels where they should be!

Thanks, I will talk to her about estradiol and spiro.

I got changes from spiro alone (lowering T) before adding estradiol three months later.
I make no representations that my biology is human :heehee:
it really depands on amounts of dosage of each ingredient in HRT. Finasteride is a mild T suppressant it will not drastically cut T levels but will clock convergence of T into more potent form. Progesterone is a pregnancy hormone, introduced to TS individual to help with fat tissue redistribution but must be combined with Estrogen to do what it is supposed to do.
Also if you never taken any form of Estrogen weather pharmaceutical or plant derived, you first must go through a slow low dose process of assimilation, when low dosage of E stimulates E-receptors and allows time for this process, then gradually increasing the dose.
Sounds to me that your doctor isn't per say a TG specialist, and so you sort of need to educate her on the mechanics of HRT for TS.
Good luck, but even if given proper combo of HRT one month is dimply nothing at your young age :)

Honestly, that regime is a little wacky... Well, the DHT blocker was a good idea - but due to your prostrate prob ! Many practioners want to start slow, and some believe in lowering your testosterone first off. But provera and finesteride ? Wacky...

I have to agree with Charlene. That is really wacky. My doctors started me out on the right meds with 3 month intervals between blood tests including T, FT, & E tests every time plus all the tests of the kidney's, etc.
My doctors just kept increasing my dosages until I maxed out. OMG! What physical and mental changes I have undergone. I can't see you getting any real changes out of your "snake oil." But please remember, I did not play Dr. Kildare in the 1961 Drama Series.

We know, you played Mrs. Kildare. :D Oh, that's right, he wasn't married.

Well in 1961, I could have been his illegitimate little girl!
Will that work?

It's not provera. It's progesterone. The finesteride is for my enlarged prostate.

Hello Diana
It seems to me your sisters have raised some compelling questions.
While I am not interested in transition, I would be using an experienced endocrinologist to manage my HRT if I was. This is outside the scope of a family practice/general practitioners training and carries serious risks as dosages increase.
I have heard, however, that changes after a month on HRT are unusual.

Provera is the brand name of the medroxyprogesterone ( a Progestin ) ;)

Finesteride and Dutasteride are drugs for prostate troubles that happen to have some wonderful side effects ( from the viewpoint of a TS that is). They are also pretty safe meds - a win-win for sure !
