View Full Version : Breast form advice
So I've decided to start saving for awhile so eventually I can get some good forms but have a few issues. First off, to any larger ladies out there, I mean no offense, I'm a big girl myself and already have close to at least a natural A cup, I like em big so when I order would I need to maybe subtract a few numbers in size? For instance, say I wanna get 40DD's but would I need to go for 38 or something so they won't be stuffed into and bursting out of my bras?
Secondly, and this one's for anybody, should I go for the adhesive kind or a type I can just pop into a bra and pop back out whenever I please. I'm trying to go for as close to real as possible because I'm kind of a perfectionist like that. I want something that can get close to real feel, jiggle, weight, temperature, everything. To me the adhesive types make sense for this but please, share any experiences you all may have! Quality forms will finally make Tera "complete" :)

Hi tera, probably the best solution is to find a local store that carrys forms. Go try on a few different types till u find the ones u like. I prefer the non stick type as some times i just want the form to come off, but they are double backed so if i feel like attaching the i can. Form shopping is fun enjoi

How hard is it to get the adhesive off once you put it on? Does it only take a minute or two or are you looking more at like 10 minute or so?

Mine can be glued on but most of the time I just put them in a bra. They still giggle if I don't get the bra too tight.

The forms can peel off quite easily, the residue on the back of the form and skin can take a bit of work to remove. Goo gone works wonders spray the form down wait a few minutes allow the solvent to work, add some dish soap rinse! I use baby oil on my chest then shower after.

Indeed, I had a pair that were non-adhesive. I liked them, but they required effort to keep in place. Not very enjoyable, if you ask me. Anytime you glue something on to your body you will need time to adhere and remove. I would give myself a few hours padding just in case anything went awry.

I don't like using glue. But then, I have complete beast plate if I want to show cleavage or go bra less or topless!

If you buy the kind that are self-adhering (Amoena makes one type) then they are just like post-it notes...stick in place. The adhesive is on the form permanently and all you do to reinvigorate it is wash the forms with the supplied cleaner and let them dry.
I have this type (2nd set) and love them. They feel much more natural than when I had my original forms and used the Hollister's spray adhesive. It held very well, but it was not a simple removal and took too much time for my taste.
As for sizing...get measured for a good bra and then look at the size charts and order accordingly.
The self-adhering forms come with a soft backer piece that you apply to the forms when you just want to put them in a bra without applying them to yourself.

Every thing said pryer is true, and who you call to order your forms from will be LOT'S of help to decide what size to get they will ask lots of questions about what you want, and the look you want. Good luck and have fun!! BTW when you get your form send us pic !!!!

I'm up to four pairs of forms and just 'purged' two sets and am down to my favorites. I've done the whole route from tissues to bird seed to the water balloons. Each have their strengths and weaknesses, but nothing feels like the closest to real as silicone forms. I've tried the adhesive back and didn't care for the time that it took to spray on the adhesive nor the time to get 'destuck'. My favorites are the ovals, but have been very happy with the triangle forms also. Both can be had for under a hundred a pair.
Then there are the asymetrical and the breast plants as previously mentioned. As long as you have the money, perfection...or near perfection can be had. Try the videos at Janets closet. They really helped me decide....
Good luck girl...

Janets closet also has measurements for each of their breastforms. You can take some measurements and get some idea how they will be. Especially if you already have a pair you can compare the measurements to the ones you have.

I have a couple but one has no glue, it totally came off, the other doesn't stick all that well, does anybody know how to fix them or if there is something safe out there in terms of glue?

They might be to small for what your looking for but selling for almost half the price advertized on the Breast Form Store. When I wore those forms they stayed in place, jiggled when I walked etc.... They don't 'pop off' but can be removed after removing your bra. The adhesive does not cause any skin irritation or pull the skin while removing the forms. I had minor heart surgery about six months ago and due to scar tissue near my left breast area I can not wear the forms any longer.

The Hollister's already mentioned is what most people use for glue. It is designed as a medical adhesive for similar purposes. However, if you look through enough years of back postings, you will find that a portion of people get a rash on contact with it, and must use something else, and some people use other medical glues because they find them to be stronger (or even just significantly less expensive.)
What not to use: duct tape. Or packing tape or the like. Those are not designed to be held in contact with skin, and duct tape in particular triggers reactions in more people than not. Serious reactions in some cases, as in permanent scarring.
Hollister's is not "all powerful". There is a limit on the weight it can hold per square inch of adhesive. Big forms can exceed that limit, especially if you sweat or have oily skin. When overloaded either through pure weight or by inertial forces (e.g., dancing), the adhesion will start to peel at the edges, giving less surface area stuck, which can hold less weight... and around it goes faster and faster losing grip until eventually the form will fall off (probably when you lean over or when you twirl in a dance.) It can help to pause from time to time and push the edges of the form back into place to give the glue a chance to re-adhere. Hollister's stays adhesive for a number of hours, and the adhesion increases a bit with body warmth, so you will not always need touch-up sprays for this.
When your forms are too heavy for the adhesive, or you are putting too much force on the bond, as they pull away from your skin your tiny blood vessels will break, giving you a ring of red spots around the edge of the form, and moving inward as the adhesion loss moves inward. This is exactly the same biophysical mechanism as a "hickey". The ring of spots will be most noticeable right at the edge of the form, as it takes time of the form pulling on your skin before the adhesive stops being enough to hold. Healing time from these spots is highly individual. I gather I heal faster than most people; for me, the majority of the inside of the ring will disappear overnight, with it taking about a day-ish for the outside of the ring to not be obvious and another day-ish for the outside of the ring (the worst part) to totally heal. I understand that 3+ days of it being "obvious" is not so uncommon.
Whether you get these red spots or not, if you use adhesive on any forms other than "professional" quality (e.g., Amoena models designed for the purpose), you should expect "heat rash", from the (salty) sweat being trapped against your body. There is also a long-term problem for lower-quality forms as the wet salt mixture can attack the plastic covering that is around the great majority of silicone forms. Amoena and some other quality manufacturers make forms that are designed for longer term adhesion; such forms have textured surfaces to allow the sweat to run off or allow air in to allow the sweat to dry. The high quality self-adhesive forms are also designed with this in mind.
For self-adhesive forms, because of the limits of the adhesive strength, usually the forms will be designed to be lighter than normal, using techniques such as having hollow parts on the underside of the form, or using meshes. Amoena also makes self-adhesive forms designed to be considerably lighter than normal forms, by using constructions such as "whipped gels" and internal meshes that give air-filled spaces within the volume. These kinds of "super-light" or "ultra-light" forms can give large visual volume at low weight. That is great for those who want the appearance, especially for long-term wear, without having the corresponding neck and back pains and with less problems with adhesive. It is, though, not uncommon for MTF to be unhappy with these super-light or ultra-light forms, as they might not have enough heft to "feel right". If you have ever tried foam forms, and compared to the same size silicone forms, and found that the foams just didn't "feel" like a realistic enough weight for you, this might be an issue for you. On the other hand, if you go big enough with these kinds of forms, you might get "enough" weight for your kinesthetic senses together with large enough projection to satisfy you in other ways. I know this was an issue for me, that I went with the "a bit heavier than I'd really like" regular-weight forms because the light-weight forms in the equivalent size didn't feel satisfying to me.
Perfectionism in larger appearance: get asymmetric forms!! If you are going for D-cup upwards, then to be realistic looking, you need the extension of the forms towards your outer side, because natural breasts that large attach along the sides of the ribs rather than being "perched" on the front of the chest. Even C cup benefits from that kind of visual extension. Heck, even my 42-A breasts have some side extension (i.e., you would be able to see the outer edges of my breasts when looking from behind me.) Oval forms turned sideways can help on this, but probably will not attach quite right. Circular forms can never approach getting this right.
Removing glued forms: peel them sort of like a band-aid: lift a corner and pull at an angle. Ideally they should not come off readily (otherwise too much chance of falling off by themselves), but they will not be "difficult" to remove if you do not hurry it. For me, the most difficult parts were (A) when the glue started pulling on the hairs on my aureola; and (B) the nipple itself (sensitive!) If you might end up in situations of needing to remove the forms in a flash, then gluing them on is not the best of ideas (unless you are a masochist!)
Myself, I found that I did not glue my forms all that often. I liked gluing them, and I also liked being able to go braless with them on (with the lighter forms, not my big ones), but the prep work and the cleanup after made adhering them a chore. Cleaning the old adhesive off the forms is grotty, and the goo remover recommended to me (by medical supply staff) reminded me of oily turpentine (hard to get off your hands! Definite smell!). I mostly ended up not cleaning the adhesive off very often. But that kind of worked out, because when I wore the forms the next day, enough adhesive was left on the forms that my body heat would trigger adhesion (even if it wasn't enough to jump around in.)
I went through a phase of wearing my forms a lot, of popping them in as soon as I got out of the house (or out of work), and leaving them in until I was nearly at work (or back home.) Gluing my forms was not at all practical under those circumstances; I needed to be able to walk down the street, disinterestedly reach into my top like I was scratching myself, palm a form, and slip it into my jacket pocket or purse, walking as I went (or discretely do this while waiting to cross at a pedestrian crossing.) Or discretely put them in again. So I would end up only gluing them if my wife was away and I was Going Out for the evening. Other people will have different needs.

I think you will find a world of difference in the experiences of everyone so you may have to experiment yourself. The Amoenas get regularly praised, so the only issue is if you can deal with the price.
I find I rarely use adhesive. Having a good fitting bra seems to work just fine for me in most cases.
On the rare times I need something, form tape works quite well for me and isn't messy. I tried It Stays! myself and found it is messy and doesn't have a lot of hold. The biggest problem was it lost adhesion with heat which you tend to get between silicone and skin.

I tried form tape and always found it to be much weaker than even double-sided scotch tape (which my skin tolerated okay but is not generally recommended.)
I found the Hollister's to be (semi-) messy only when spraying it on, so I would tend to spray in the bathtub. I did not have any problems with the Hollister's "getting over everything". But do make sure it is pointed in the right direction! One time somehow I had it pointed backwards right towards my eye
Body heat helps with Hollister's, I found.

Just as is the case with wigs, you will find places on the internet selling the Amoena forms much less expensively than you can buy locally (if you can find a local supplier.) However, I would caution that to get the right model and right fit for you, you really need to try some on at some point. I went through a local professional fitter and it was well worth it to me to have the benefit of her skills and experience -- but now that I've Been There, Done That, I would consider ordering similar forms through the 'net. But not if I was changing technologies a fair bit, such as going to the self-adhesive light-weight forms.

I only use adhesive if I have a low cut dress and want to show my boobs.
Otherwise it is a push up bra and there is enough showing then without being immodest.
I have had men say behind my back, "She has great tits".
That does make me burst with pride. :) :)

have had success with Aleene's Tack-It Over & Over available at Michaels and other craft stores. Cost is approx $5 per 4 ounce plastic bottle. Use will require some experimentation
I used to be obsessed with adhesive, but haven't used any for years. Get a good bra and some silicones... no need for adhesive unless you are going braless! Silicone forms will warm to your body temperature and will 'adhere' in a non sticky way - they do feel like they are part of you the longer they are there! And you will NOT want to take them off...
Prices vary... but so does the quality... my advice is go to the Breast Form Store.... online and brilliant... google.

Three pair from Janet's Closet here. I only glue when I go braless. No real point otherwise. I use the Hollister spray and it works very well. Extra time for cleanup, but the feeling of having breasts attached to you is amazing when you have the time.

It Stays is water soluble. It holds until the wearer starts to perspire.
I agree with Danielle. Your best bet is to be fitted, Tera.
It's a safe bet that breast form fitters deal extensively with women who have lost breast tissue to cancer. A courtesy call or email will be appreciated in advance of showing up at their doorstep, as some have a no-males policy to protect their (sadly) more usual clients.

Cheryl, how heavy are your forms? I am trying to get a feel for how much weight that adhesive can reasonably hold, as so far for me nothing short of Hollister's has worked for anything past A-cup forms.

i find the self adhesive forms from Amoena work well. I have a size 5 and can go braless if needed. However, they tend to fall off if you sweat.
For adhesive, Duro Bond III is great. Smith Kline makes a remover that gets the glue off the skin. To remove from the forms, soak in 91% rubbing alcohol. This glue an thicken so geting the thinner helps get a better application. This adhesive holds well when I perspire.

I have this type as well and when stuck on they feel like part of my body (after they've warmed up). If you have to remove them in a hurry, they just peel off, no residue, but there will be marks on your skin for a while. Of course you will have bra marks as well. Cleaning the adhesive on the forms takes a few minutes.
These are the ones I have:

They come with a flexible backing that you can leave on or put back on if you just want to stick them in your bra without sticking them on your chest.

I've had a few pairs of silicone and they all seem to stay in place with the correct size and style bra. I like a full coverage bra that isn't lined and has a little stretch to it. The forms stay in place and will give the bounce we like to watch on GG's. (.)(.) I've bought most of mine off of ebay and have had great success with size and quality. I bought my first pair from JC Penny and they were expensive, like $250. The ebay silicone are around $100 or less depending on size. I haven't tried the adhesive or tape since I live in the southeast and the humidity here sucks.

If at all possible get fitted for bra and forms by someone who knows what they are doing. I got fitted at Carla's in San Jose, a wonderful experience. Tried 42C and 42D bras and several sizes of forms. Went with 42D which may sound huge but I have wide shoulders so they really don't look out of place on my 5-11 frame. It really helped to put a dress on over them to get the picture. Another suggestion - take your forms with you when you go bra shopping. I bought a full coverage bra at Kohl's and the 42D was too big, there was empty space. So I went with a 42C. (while trying on the bras with my forms in the men's dressing room at Kohl's I dropped a bra on the floor - not even a chuckle from the guy in the next dressing room! )
