The force must be strong within me these days. All of a sudden I have been getting a bunch of "Can I help you Ma'am?", "Ma'am what would you like to drink?" and the like.

It really started this Saturday. I dress generally casual fem all the time. I had on burgundy slim jeans, with a nice red moderate scoop neck top, definitely not a guy top, but not huge of cleavage, mostly to show my two neck pendants, sneakers and was wearing my usual jewelry, earrings and a ring. My hair is longish, not quite to my shoulders but cut nicely. No makeup. I was going through the checkout line at Costco, chatting with the cashier, when a young lady came up to the line and started a sales pitch to me: Ma'am have you heard about our Executive card? She wasn't looking directly at me, but fiddling with her pricing gun. After saying that she looked up, she was about 2 feet away, and then blushed and started stammering, Ma'am, I mean sir :) I just shrugged it off, I was ok with it, told her it was no problem, but she kept babbling on about how sorry she was. The cashier, packer and me all told her it was ok, but she was totally flustered.

Next stop was the dollar store and waiting at the cash register I heard "Be right there Ma'am!" and then the cashier walked up and started chatting while ringing me up. Next stop was the drugstore and the guy cashier said "Is this all Ma'am?" and rung me up. All this did was put a bemused smile on my face.

But last night I was waiting for a friend at PF Changs and was seated at the table when the waitress came up and "Ma'am what would you like to drink?" So who knows? I'm not trying to be overtly fem, just be myself but I like it.

Oh to get "Ma'am" may I help you with out makeup! That would be a joy, but impossible at my age. Good for you, with makeup you must look darling.

Hi Katy, I have been getting Ma'am'd lately in male mode. I usually take that as a signal it's time to get a haircut, which I did as I have to go to a family wedding in a few weeks...Hugs Jaymee

Oh, I'm no spring chicken, I'm 58. Maybe I'm getting to the age where it all blends together and the clothes are the defining clue that pushes them over the gender decision line. Or maybe just everybody forgot to wear their glasses or contacts the last couple of days! Whatever, I'm not complaining either!

When you are in drab, androgynous and getting maam'ed you know you are making progress.

My hair's back almost to my shoulders after a foolish attempt to sport a pixie for a while. My hairdresser talked me into it, I never told her I hated it. Back to getting ma'amed in boy mode. I love it... my wife just shakes her head.

I probably get "ma'amed" just as often when I'm not dressed or trying to pass, as when I am. It always surprises and flatters me. I'd say it was due to my now fairly long and platinum blonde hair, but it really started happening even before my 'do could be confused with female.

I just take it as confirmation that I'm emitting the right feminine vibe, or pheromones, or whatever.

I LOVE being Ma'amed. Especially when I'm in drab. My long hair is what does it.

Love it when someone refers to me as Ma'am or She. I does make my day!

I don't know why so many people feel that the must address a person as Maam or Sir. Why not just look at the person and say "can I help you" or just start talking to them. There is way to much emphasis placed on these two gendered pronouns in our society. I get annoyed when people tend to be over ingratiating. Businesses can provide excellent service without the Sir or Maam. Since I am dual-gendered, more female than male, I prefer it this way.

The real skill is to apply enough makeup to make it appear we are not wearing any. I've done it when doing my thing as a guy dressed as a girl dressed as a guy, i.e. cross crossdressing. It can be fun but a bit problematic in the beginning.:)
