I've been gone for quite a while...not that I was really "here" all that much before, but I'm hoping that some of the more "experienced" girls can help me out with a few questions.

So, first off, in terms of the title of the post, I am moving on from the backwaters of South Louisiana and back to Florida to try and make a clean start in a new place. I've secured a place to live thanks to roommates.com and I'm pretty sure I've got the job situation sorted out. I haven't discussed the fact that I'm TS with him yet and I'm not so sure that I really need to as I'm still very much in the closet and haven't started HRT or taken any other big steps yet. I'm relatively sure that if it does become an issue that he'll be okay with it (call it a suspicion), but that's not why I'm here.

My questions are:

Can anyone tell me how I go about setting up to see a therapist at the local VA clinic? Down here I'd been paying out of pocket to see a gender therapist but put that on hold when I somehow wound up in a relationship again (call it a last -ditch effort to prove myself wrong). I understand that the VA offers both therapy and hormones for trans patients but I'm not really sure how that process works.

Secondly, how trans friendly is the Orlando area? I'm used to the climate down here in Louisiana, where really the only truly accepting place is New Orleans. I have been in the closet for far too long and I'm hoping that a new place can help that out. I also suffer from some pretty severe nervousness about the idea, and that coupled with deep-rooted body image issues has kept me huddled indoors for far too long.

Thanks in advance for any help you girls can give, it's truly appreciated!:)

I'm on the other side of the country, so I am unable to give specific info about VA there. But, I do know that to apply to get VA benefits and get into theor system, you can get the process going on-line. I guess just google the VA and you'll find the application page. That is how I applied to try and get VA help. However, my VA experience isn't much, they denied me any help because they say I make too much money and can don't need their help. Kinda sucks since I spent 10 years active duty military. But, thet do have limited resources so agree or not, I understand their rational. And, I figure by not spending their resources on me, hopefully they are able to help someone who needs it more than me. Anyway, good luck to you!!
