I have kind of a strange question. Due to me wanting to explore my femininity, my wife and I have split. We had three cats together. We are in the process of dividing property and I wish to get one of the cats in the process. I have not seen the cat in four months now and it could be a bit longer before I get him back. I have been on estrogen now for almost a month. I have read on here that a person's "smell" changes after being on HRT for a while. Since cats and dogs often recognize their owners by smell, do you think he will still remember me once I get him back?

Your smell for a cat it's not going to change more than when you change your deodorant or cologne.

The cat will be more disoriented by the change of home, give him a few weeks to adapt.

I do not have any cats myself, but my sister does. Her cats remembered me after a year absence, during which time I had been on HRT for nearly 6 months.

If anything you will be better appreciated, since you will smell more like tuna

I visit infrequently with my daughter at her house with an ex-wife I divorced in 2000. My ex had a cat while we were married and the cat and I were pretty 'bonded' but she kept him when we split. Anyway, whenever i do go over to her house, if the cat hears me, he comes out and and naturally I pick him up and pet him. My daughter tells me I am the ONLY person he actually comes to and will allow to pick up. I have been on HRT since 2009 and the cat seems to recognize me as well now as ever.

Don't know if any of that means anything, but that's my experience.
