What Leuprolide is? My doctor gave it to me as part of my HRT and can't find much out about it. I know side effects and so on but not what it dose for me.
I do know its like $900. So I'm really happy my insurance is going to pay it.

:)

"USES: Leuprolide is used to treat advanced prostate cancer in men. It is not a cure. Most types of prostate cancer need the male hormone testosterone to grow and spread. Leuprolide works by reducing the amount of testosterone that the body makes. "

So that sounds to me like it's an antiandrogen. Why not use Spiro? I wonder the logic of prescribing a $900 drug unless there is some other reason.

Often it is "on Formulary" Many insurance companies pay for certain things and not others and doctors can get around this by prescribing another drug for another "diagnosis". Also, this doctor may feel that the anti-androgen would have less side effects than a diuretic. Then there is the possibility the doctor prefers a certain drug company over another

She has me on Spiro aswell.
Good thing is some how my doctor is getting my insurance to pay for it.
I'm loveing that! She is working on getting my T levels down to nill. Which shouldn't be to hard.
Being that I started with very low T (less the half of it should be) and Higher E levels.
She was shocked by the labs and took the a 2nd time.
I just thought that makes since.

Hopefully it won't take your doc too long to figure this out with you! It sounds like she is being very careful with making sure your levels are where they should be.
